They may have killed Xena off in the series finale (bastards), but the Xena: Warrior Princess fandom will never die.
If you don’t believe me, just show up in Los Angeles this weekend, where a few hundred passionate and mostly lesbian fans of the 90s television series, its ass-kicking hero Xena (Lucy Lawless) and her idealistic sidekick Gabrielle (Renee O’Connor) will be gathering for the 15th annual Xena: Warrior Princess convention.
Also on the schedule, two of the series’ most sizzling alums. First up is Hudson Leick, who played Xena’s blonde, leather-clad arch nemesis Callisto and last year knocked the audience’s socks off with her less violent — but no less lethal — glamorous side.
Then there is… do not faint… Gina Torres, who portrayed Cleopatra in one of the Xenaverse’s trademark re-writings of history before going on to roles including Zoe Washburne in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity, Anna Espinosa in Alias and Jasmine in Angel.
And there’s even more: X:WP writer Katherine Fugate (Army Wives, Valentine’s Day), Adrienne Wilkinson (Eve/Livia), Brittney Powell (Brunnhilda), Jennifer Sky (Amarice), Victoria Pratt (Cyane), and many others. There will even be a two-hour yoga class taught by Hudson Leick, and a special screening of Lucy’s new television series, Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
And yes, AfterEllen.com will be there, and that means you will, too!
We’ll be continuing our tradition of liveblogging from the convention floor, with exclusive interviews with Lucy and Renee and photos by KT Jorgensen. It all starts Friday at around noon Pacific Time and continues through Sunday, right here on the blog and on #xwp on Twitter.
