Last April, I told you Sophie from Coronation Street was going to be having a “lesbian fling.” It’s October, and it still has yet to happen.
However, the 17-year-old actress that plays Sophie, Brooke Vincent, recently told The Sun that it is sure to happen “this year” and will be Sian (Sacha Parkinson).
“We’ve talked about it, we’re so close so we’ll be alright,” Vincent said. “I’ve just told her as long as she sticks to her own side when it comes to the kissing scenes things will be fine. But no tongues!”
Oh great – that’ll be realistic.
“I think the story’s going to be really good, it’s something to get my teeth into and it will take Sophie out of Rosie’s shadow. It will also let other teenage girls know they are not the only ones going through it if they are experiencing something similar.”
Right – lesbians are just like anyone else, except they only give closed-mouth kisses! I’m flashing back to early South of Nowhere, where hugs were supposed to illustrate the passion of Spashley.
Vincent also said, “Often there aren’t as many lesbian characters on TV compared to gay ones so it’s a really positive thing for the soap,” which is true. However, I’m hoping her “pact” isn’t set in stone, as we’ll have another Otalia situation on our hands.
