Lifetime breaks up with “Lovespring”, calls up “Army Wives”

Lifetime has opted not to renew the Jane Lynch-led ensemble dating-service comedy Lovespring for a second season, and Angela’s Eyes isn’t getting another season, either (no big loss there).

Instead, the network for women has ordered up 13 episodes of a new series called Army Wives, an ensemble drama series “about the struggles, dreams and friendships of a diverse group of women – and one man – living with their spouses and families on an active army post and the pressures and traditions of the military on those who are left behind while their partners serve their country.”

Um, isn’t there already a show like this on TV, called The Unit?

Oh wait, this one stars Kim Delaney. If only it starred Dana Delany, I might actually watch. Oh, who am I kidding, I’ll probably check it out anyway, just to see how they handle the storyline of the lone guy whose wife is in the army. In fact, why doesn’t Lifetime do a show called Army Husbands and explore the lives of all the men whose wives are off “serving their country”? Now that would be new and different.
