Morning Brew – “Her Story” star Jen Richards to recur on “Nashville”

Good morning!

Sue Perkins is not here for the Great British Bake Off‘s move to Channel 4.

Keke Palmer‘s new video has her putting on a masculine swagger and I like it.

There’s a GoFund me account set up for a queer woman and her mother who were murdered in late August and deserve a “proper service.” Towleroad reports that the remains of Teresa Jackson and her daughter Danielle Smith were found stabbed to death in their Camden County, Missouri trailer, which was burned down in what is said to be a hate crime. (Some reports say Danielle was a lesbian, others say she identified as bisexual.)

Elena Delle Donne and Angel McCoughtry are among the players who made espnW’s all-WNBA first and second teams.

Atlanta has a new “Broadway-bound” musical about two girls who just want to go to prom together. It’s called The Prom and follows the story of “Emma, [a] teen who’s dating a closeted cheerleader-and plans to finally go public with their relationship at the school’s big night.”

Minnesota GOP Communications Chair Vickie Froelich attempted to shame out lesbian congressional candidate Angie Craig by posting a photo of her family next to a bunch of other heterosexual families and asking Facebook users to put their support behind her opponent, some straight guy named Jason.

Glamour talks with queer and bi women about discrimination. Sadly, it sounds like a lot of them have had some terrible experiences with lesbians. Sigh.

GLAAD is hosting a really cool NYC event for Bi+ Week. It’s a panel discussion on “bisexual+ representation in today’s ever-changing media landscape.”

An Irish lesbian couple was shamed out of their positions in the local church choir by a Catholic newspaper writer (jerk), but they were welcomed back in a grand way.

Blacklight tennis anyone? USTA Florida, XGLOsive LLC and the Orange Blossom Tennis Association are hosting “the first-ever black-light tennis event for LGBT players in Orlando” on October 15.

Mara Wilson came out after the Orlando Pulse tragedy, and now says she wasn’t thrilled about the response. From Vanity Fair:

“I was very upset for a few days. I was like, ‘How could I have done this?” She sighs. “It was an impulsive decision. It was definitely an impulsive, emotional decision. I did not expect it to trend on Facebook.”

Looking back, would she have done it again the same way ? Wilson doesn’t spin it: “No. Ideally, I was wishing it would be because I was dating Janelle MonĂ¡e or something.”

Carrie Brownstein‘s short film for KENZO is here. The Realest Real stars Rowan Blanchard, Natasha Lyonne, Kim Gordon, Laura Harrier and Mahershala Ali and everyone is in an existential crisis.

Michelle Rodriguez must be stopped.

Christine and the Queens covered Beyonce‘s “Sorry” and I loved it.

Shura talks about her new album with Interview.

Her Story star (and AfterEllen Chat Room contributor!) Jen Richards has been cast on the new season of Nashville. Jen, a queer and trans-identified actress, will play “Allyson Del Lago, a tough but understanding physical therapist who helps a series regular through one of their most difficult challenges.” This is huge for the show, which has made the move to CMT and is definitely a first for the network. Now if she dates a lady, my prayers will be answered. (As long as it’s not Scarlett. Not a fan.)
