Morning Brew – Abby Wambach opens up about addiction

Good morning!

Boston Magazine details P-Town’s upcoming Bride Pride, aka the largest lesbian wedding ever.

Some douche thought it was fine to yell hateful things at a lesbian couple in Bath. Then he was promptly kicked off his train.

Francis Goldin has two gay kids and has brought the same “I adore my lesbian daughters – keep them safe” sign to Pride for the last 30 years.

Want to get really angry for about an hour and a half? Breitbart’s Milo Yiannopoulos is actually traveling around and giving a speech called “Why Do Lesbians Fake So Many Hate Crimes?” Thank you to all of those who are featured in this video as trying to shut this asshole down on his Dangerous Faggot tour. He is deplorable. I may need to write something more about this so excuse me if I bring it up again in some other capacity.

Danielle Cormack talks Ballie and Wentworth with Curve.

Fifth Harmony has sadly canceled some tour dates.

A reader complained to The News Tribune about their putting a lesbian wedding story on a recent front page. But another responded in support.

A new study finds that “the sexual orientation of LGBT candidates no longer poses an impediment to being elected to public office — and, in some cases, may actually help them win.”

The New York Times has a detailed map of same-sex married couples in the U.S.

Europe’s migrant crisis is taking a toll on tourism in Lesbos.

Diffuser remembers St. Vincent’s Strange Mercy as being “awash with…Sapphic desire.”

UK reality star Katie Salmon is launching a line of sex toys for women to “use together.”

A Virginia man who helped a woman flee with her child in an apparently religiously motivated effort to give away from her ex-partner is going to trial.

I’ve never wanted to go to New Orleans more after seeing this ad from Go Nola.

Heather Matarazzo and Kirsten Vangsness are starring in a new film, Stuck, from out director Jillian Armenante.

People offers some facts on Elizabeth Gilbert‘s girlfriend, Rayya Elias. She’s basically a bad ass.

Speaking of bad asses, out writer Katherine Collins has penned the script for a new film called Riot Girls, a sci-fi action feature that is definitely queer. The description:

Riot Girls is set in a world where adults have mysteriously died and resources are scarce with a teenage girl called to action when her brother is captured by rivals and set to be executed. Joined by the girl who has always loved her and the boy who wants to love her, the threesome tear through the crumbling suburbs on a violent road marked by betrayal, sexual discovery, and brutal justice.”

Jovanka Vuckovic will direct and they are “currently casting.”

The stars of Fun Home say goodbye with this rendition of “When I’m Gone.”

As We Are looks like a new queer-themed series worth your time.

Michael Musto spent the night with Jill Soloway, Eileen Myles, Kathryn Hahn and Sandra Bernhard. Lucky!

Abby Wambach‘s memoir is out today and it details her secret addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol. She opened up on her Facebook page yesterday in a post about being nervous but excited to share her story. An excerpt:

I may have scored more international goals than anyone in the history of the soccer. I’ve also been called a tomboy, dyke, bitch, coward, failure, control freak, rebel, fraud. And a few more, on the flip side: phenom, inspiration, champion, leader, hero. At a young age, I learned you own labels by defying them, and defy them by owning them.

Tomorrow I am publishing a book that may shock and even disappoint some people. For thirty years, scoring goals was my currency, the one skill I could barter for security and acceptance and love. Rarely did I pause long enough to consider what might come next, and how the shape of my life would look without soccer to fill it up. Writing this book has allowed me the space to do that (thank you Karen Abbott). Writing this book has been a true gift.

When you read about my lows, my self-doubt, my drinking, you might judge me and that is ok. But no matter who you are or what you’ve done with your life, I bet you will recognize the feeling I describe, that private terror that makes you wonder if you’re lost for good. You’re not.

I am nervous to open up and talk about my struggles for the first time this week. But I hope in so doing, we can change the conversation about what it means to be a “hero.” Heros fail. They fall down. They screw up. Heroes tell the truth.

I’m fine with people believing Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato are the OTP.
