Morning Brew – Lesbian couple behind “Making of a Murderer” wins four Emmys

Good morning!

Thanks to Dana for taking over the Brew while I was in Miami for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association Media Convention. It was great to see pioneers Ina Fried and LZ Granderson be inducted into the Hall of Fame and other journalists rewarded for their hard work reporting on and for the community. All were well deserved.

p.s. DJ Citizen Jane throws a great girl party called Addiction that you should check out if you’re ever in the area.

Over the weekend the Creative Emmys awarded Making of a Murderer‘s out creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos with Outstanding Documentary Series, Outstanding Writing — Nonfiction Program, Outstanding Directing — Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Editing — Nonfiction Program.

Sadly, Her Story and Gaycation did not win in their respective categories but we’re still proud they were nominated. Ellen Page brought gf Samantha Thomas on the carpet with her.

RuPaul beat Jane Lynch for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition, but she’s probably OK with it.

GLAAD celebrated Hannah Hart and Monica Roberts on Saturday night. If you aren’t familiar with Monica, she is a pioneering blogger and activist based in Houston, Texas and you should definitely check out her award-winning blog TransGriot. Her Story’s Angelica Ross presented Monica with her Special Recognition, and Mary Lambert was also there to perform for the crowd.

Sadly, Miss Missouri did not win Miss America, but she did get a lot of press for being the first openly gay contestant.

Lesbians are still not into Donald Trump, especially former Marine Kristen Kavanaugh.

A bit of a heartwarmer: Vietnamese parents support LGBT children’s quest for equal rights.

Trans actress Alexis Arquette passed away over the weekend and her sister Patricia penned a little something about her life in remembrance.

At NBC Out: I’m an Entrepreneur. I’m a Lesbian. And ‘I’m With Her.’

Whenever someone famous comes out and they are 30+, there are inevitably think pieces about coming out “later in life.” Here’s one. And another.

Argentinian lesbians protested recent discrimination against a same-sex couple by staging a kiss in. I approve.

Renee Zellweger once had a female friend express her love for her but she didn’t feel the same:

“But I loved her differently. We talked about it, we laughed, and I was happy she trusted me and that we have a relationship where we could have that conversation.”

EastEnders viewers are not pleased about one character’s homophobia.
