Clea DuVall Plays a Lesbian Secret Service Agent on “Veep”

If you’re not already watching Veep, then you’re missing out on one of the funniest series on television right now. Currently in its fifth season on HBO, the series follows former vice president Selina Meyer (played by the brilliant Julie Louis-Dreyfus) and her staff as they navigate the minefield of American politics. At the end of season three, the president resigns and Selina becomes the first woman president of the United States, and since then she has struggled with scandals, a recall election, and the economy. Veep is whip-smart, hilarious, and features some of the most creatively worded cursing streaks and insults I have ever seen. This show is practically perfect.

This season, Clea DuVall joins the cast as Marjorie, a taciturn secret service agent hired to double for Selina. Given her small role on the show so far, I was delighted to see that they were setting up her character for something bigger: a romance with Selina’s daughter Catherine (Sarah Sutherland).

After a string of relationships with men and a failed engagement, Catherine and Marjorie have fallen in love. They came clean about their relationship in last week’s episode, to a shocked Selina and Gary.

We’ll see the relationship develop further in this week’s episode, as the rest of Selina’s staff finds out about the relationship. Catherine’s previous relationships have been sacrificed to save the Meyer campaign before, so here’s hoping that this one will last!

I’m just glad that Catherine is getting attention from someone, as she is frequently dismissed by own mother. Catherine has spent much of this season filming a (largely unfavorable) documentary about Selina that could very well be the death knell for her political career.
