“Orphan Black” recap (4.07): Boys want to be her, girls want to be her

On the Island, Rachel mocks Ira for failing at suicide, in her Rachel way, and he calls Susan “Mother” despite the fact that a) they’re sleeping together and b) Rachel is more her daughter than anyone and she doesn’t even call her Mother. It’s all twisted. Susan and Rachel video chat with Evie and Evie mocks Rachel’s speech impediment. Which I must say, has shown marked improvement until now. She said “secret science society” earlier with no problem. But what’s funny is that Rachel—the calm, cool, collected ProClone—now has a tell for when she’s stressed/anxious. Her body is betraying her, and she’s being forced to show weakness. Evie tells Susan that Leda will be destroyed but for its useful bits. The naive clones will just be released into the wild, but the self-aware clones are still a threat. With a cruel smile, she says they must be taken care of. Rachel wants to help with that, calling herself Neolution-bred, but Evie tells her that all the power she thought she held was an illusion.

“Crushing Leda dreams is my favorite pastime.”

Sarah takes more shots at the bar and starts making eyes at a girl across the room. Dizzy interrupts this eyesex and is trying to ask about the implant when the girl comes over, offering Sarah a Slippery Nipple…and a shot of bourbon. It was a really well-played pick-up line, and if I had any game at all, I’d be all over it. The girl’s name is Elle, and Sarah asks about her friend Tito, and so Sarah joins the duo, Dizzy reluctantly following like a fourth wheel on a tricycle.

They ditch the lame-o while they dance, Sarah making eye contact with Dizzy while she grinds all up on this Elle chick, Peaches rocking out in the background.

One of the lines of the song playing is literally, “Four: We’re straight no more.”

In the literal opposite situation, Alison is setting up for an all-girls, soccer-themed slumber party. Donnie invited Reverend Mike, who follows Alison around like she’s going to fall apart while she gets the kids into jammies and offers them cookies. But every time he tries to get her to share her feelings she nope nope nopes right away from him.

Sarah pulls her new friends off the dance floor, and they go out back. She makes out with Elle while Tito lines up some coke for them to do.

I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THIS WAS A THING I COULD HOPE FOR.

Inside, Felix is showing Sarah’s picture around with no luck. Dizzy sees him and pretends like he hasn’t seen her but admits to knowing her, and luckily doesn’t send Felix out to bust up Sarah’s coke-fueled threesome, and just takes a message instead.

As Sarah does the drugs, by the way, she has more Beth flashes. Also, side note, this means Sarah is bi, right? If she had just jumped into a threesome, I might be like “Ah, she’s partysexual,” but it wasn’t just two-girls-on-Tito during that threesome; Sarah was the center of it, and she seemed to enjoy it quite a bit. It was fun to be able to enjoy this, also, because if this had been the show’s first foray into queerness (which it is in other shows far too often), I would be like “UGH WHY?” But since we already have an established/main lesbian character, and an established/recurring bisexual character in a meaningful relationship with said lesbian, plus Felix and Shay, wherever they fall, I’d say they’ve earned the right to let Drunk!Sarah get her freak on. Plus, it was hot as hell.
