“Legends of Tomorrow” recap (1.13): (Stop, thief!) Vandal! (Outrage!) Scandal?

Previously on Legends of Tomorrow, Kendra started remembering her past lives little by little and is starting to feel like she’s cheating on Carter with Ray, the Pilgrim chased them through time and they’re running out of episodes…,er time so now they have to go to 2166 to stop Savage at the height of everything.

The Waverunner experiences some turbulence as they land in hostile territory in 2166. Because the thing is, everything is hostile territory now. They’re landing three days before Rip’s family dies, but they have no time to waste, because Vandal Savage will be out in the open tonight. Rory knows who Rip will want: Killer, Klepto, Pyro. Which is a pretty badass band name. So Sara, Snart, Rory and Rip go to a Savage rally which I imagine is what Nazi gatherings also looked like. A woman with Savage makes them, but they follow Savage & Co anyway. Kendra recognizes the bracelet on her wrist as she walks away from her first death as Chay-ara.

Rory knocks Rip voer to start a kerfuffle, and Sara ends up going toe to toe with Savage’s girl. Kendra radios for to take the bracelet, and Sara is annoyed but keeps fighting anyway. Snart ends up face-to-gun with her but doesn’t shoot her, earning him a sly smirk.

Rip is mad that they caused such a ruckus until Kendra tells him about the bracelet. Rip is like okay great something to kill Savage with, but Sara points out that even she, fierce warrior, tends to need a weapon to kill someone, not a bangle. Rip heads out with some of the boys to meet up with the resistance and he tells Sara to prep Kendra, but she’s not exactly sure what that will entail, especially because they don’t even HAVE the bracelet yet.

When the boys get outside, they’re surrounded by a woman and their crew, and eventually convince her that they’re allies…probably one of the few people on earth left. Jax and Stein feel sympathetic toward the dirty rebels milling about and promises them they’ll be back to help.

Rip explains that he has tried to save his wife and son a bunch of time, but they always end up dying, and he’s starting to think that time wants this to happen. SOMETHING I THINK WE WOULD HAVE ALL BENEFITED FROM KNOWING 13 EPISODES AGO.

But anyway, the resistance leader is dubious about their ability to help. Literally the entire world, save London, has been taken over, how can this ragtag bunch of misfits help? Well, with Science, that’s how!

Also magic. The scientists go off to do their thing and Rip tells Kendra to study her son’s research to try to get a clue about what to do with the bracelet. Kendra’s annoyed because she’s read it a ton of times, but when she goes to look at it, she sees Carter’s mace, and gets a little misty. Sara says she’s allowed to be upset; no matter what rule of getting over a breakup you follow (half the length of the relationship, a week/month for every year you were together), she’s allowed to still be mourning a 4,000 year relationship, even if they’re going to be together again in another life.

This triggers Kendra into remembering a past self, in the 1940s.

Flashback Carter gives Kendra a mace as a last minute this-is-what-I-had-in-my-hand anniversary present, and tries to cover it up by saying he wants to teach her to fight without him in case he ever dies first. She has obviously not yet fully realized the power of her inner hawk goddess yet (probably because she didn’t have Sara to train her) because she says she won’t be strong enough to kill Savage alone.

This memory gives present-day Kendra an idea, and Sara is so ready for whatever it is.

Snart and Rory go see Savage’s girl and demand she hand over the bracelet. They banter for a bit, and the girl reveals that she knows all of their names because she’s been warned about them. They take her to the Waverunner, handing the bracelet over to Rip, and explains that they kidnapped her because she knew too much.

They figure as Savage’s right-hand man, she’s bound to know something, but she calls them all dumbasses and says that she’s his daughter.

And I honestly don’t remember at what point they learn her name, but it’s Cassie, so I’m going to start calling her that. The team discusses what they should do next, and after dismissing Rory’s idea of sending Savage his daughter back piece by piece, Sara says maybe Cassie has information that can help them.

Snart offers to get her to talk, and goes to her, but she’s not afraid of any torture he could possibly put her through. She also stands firm by her father’s side (metaphorically…she’s still in the brig) because that Pterodactyl kid released the armageddon virus and her father is the only one who can save the world from itself. But Snart says torture wasn’t exactly what he had in mind; at least, not the kind she was anticipating.

Kendra asks Rory for some help with an idea, and he uses his heat gun to melt down her bracelet, which she then pours over the head of Carter’s mace. Rory asks if she’s sure she’ll be able to look in a man’s eyes and kill him dead, especially with such a brutal weapon, and she looks fondly at the glowing ball of spikes and says that she’s strong enough.

Vandal Savage tell his people to get his daughter back at all costs around the same time Ray and Stein figure out that what they previously thought were craters from bombs were actually reeeaaaally big footprints.

They hear a thump, thump, thump like they’re in a Jurassic Park movie and Cassie gets excited because she knows this means her father is going to save her. Stein and Jax start piling refugees into the Waverunner and take off, but are soon caught in the hands of a giant robot. Like, GIANT. It throws the Waverunner like a frisbee (I personally would have thrown it down like a pog slammer but whatever), causing the ship to crash land about an hour away from the giant.

Rip wants to take the jumpship, but Stein doesn’t want to leave the refugees. Not that he’ll have any more say in what happens, because he got hit with a piece of debris and will be unconscious for the rest of the episode.

Snart goes back to Cassie, who doesn’t have a hair out of place despite the ruckus.

He leads her out to the refugees and says that these are the people her father is trying to convince her are dangerous. They’re not radicals, they’re just regular people trying to survive. He tells her that Savage was the one who released the virus, because Peridot was only a kid when he came to power. Snart has Gideon show her the footage from the meeting and she can’t believe her eyes. She calls him a liar, and he can’t disagree, but he promises he’s telling the truth about this.

She is understandably shaken.

Rip thinks this is the end; Ray has hope; he’s going to fight

The Team regroups and checks in on each other. Kendra has a mace, Snart has a friend in Cassie, Ray has a way to stop the robot, and Sara has both assassin and vigilante training. Plus a perfect face.

Rip is excited; maybe THIS is what destiny had in store. Maybe THIS is what time wanted to happen all along.

Ray has Jax juice his Atom suit from part of the Waverunner, and suddenly he embiggens, becoming some sort of Megazord. This pisses Savage off, but then he’s distracted by Cassie coming in. He notices her bracelet is missing almost immediately, and can tell she’s lying when she says she must have lost it in her escape. She drops her facade and starts yelling at him; he’s been lying to her her entire life. She calls him a monster and the Legends appear from all corners of the room. He’s most excited to sense Kendra nearby, so she makes her entrance and flies him into a room of their own.

Everyone starts to fight, and Kendra gets a few good swings in with her mace, and is pleasantly surprised that it actually hurts him, and glows with magic. Savage is surprised too, but less pleasantly so. Kendra is about to bash his skull in when a guard comes in, so she takes him out first. She’s about to finish him off when she sees his face, and it’s Carter. Savage says he brainwashed Carter so that he won’t remember his past lives, and that if she kills him, Carter will never remember. And I guess if she kills Savage, they’ll stop regenerating? Is that the rule? But I feel like she can fly back in time and scoop up any Carter she wants, so I’m confused as to what her hesitation is.

Rip comes in and tells Kendra that she has to choose between saving Carter and saving his wife and son, which was the douchiest way to phrase it, and I feel like the stakes would have been higher if it was Carter vs. the fate of the free world. Pretty much anyone would save their own loved one over someone else’s. So instead of killing anyone, they take both men onto the Waverunner.

Ray defeats the robot, Stein recovers from his injury, all seems well in the world. But when Rip goes to see Savage, he’s still smirking like he holds all the cards. Like maybe he knows something we don’t know. Like time is on HIS side.

What did you think of “Leviathan”? Is it bad that I want Snart to get with Cassie so he’ll leave Sara alone? I prefer Assassin!Thief as a bromance.-they’re too similar to date. Thoughts?
