“Orphan Black” recap (4.02): Beneath the surface

Meanwhile, Mrs. S chats up Scott, asking if Cosima is okay, because she looks a little worse for wear. Scott says they’re getting closer to a gene therapy for what ails her physically, but that they still haven’t heard from or about Delphine, so emotionally there may not be a cure readily available.

Sarah meets up with Art at the diner at which he has now met up with Beth, Sarah as Beth, and Sarah. He shows Sarah the Neolutionist case they got pulled off of right before Beth died, including the…body mod…

Also my face when I Googled it. (DON’T GOOGLE IT.)

He also tells Sarah that he suspects the anonymous tips Beth was getting were from MK. He suggests their next step be to search Beth’s apartment, and Sarah is on board.

When they get there, the flat is littered with boxes. Since Paul was being paid by secret organizations with endless funds, the rent is paid through the end of the year, and since neither Paul nor Beth had anyone to claim their belongings, it’s all just still here. So, Art starts poking through the life of the woman he loved and lost, and Sarah starts searching for answers about the sister she never knew.

Alison goes to see Felix at his loft, and once she’s done being scandalized by the sight of his naked bum, she encourages him to talk to his family, to tell Sarah and Mrs. S what he’s been up to over the past three months. Alison says she’s sure they’ll be supportive of this secret venture, but Felix isn’t so sure.

Back at Beth’s apartment, Sarah finds one of her sestra’s marathon ribbons and says she barely likes running when she’s tearing through the streets looking for her daughter after shouting her name through a window; she couldn’t imagine doing it for fun. But Art says they’re more alike than it seems, Sarah and Beth.

Flash back to Beth getting a beer out of the fridge.

“I have a Bud Light I keep in here for unwanted guests if you’d like.”

Detective Duko, the creepy cop who keeps slinking around in all the wrong places, is paying Beth a visit on her paid leave and tells her to stop sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong, all while wagging Leekie’s book on Neoution in her face.

In the present day, Sarah finds that very book and sees that it was inscribed for Beth from the Leekmeister himself.

Over in suburbia, Donnie (who has been instructed not to tell Helena her sestra is back in town just yet) takes Helena to an OB appointment. (Like, the obstetrician, not an Orphan Black appointment…) Helena is the most Helena she’s ever been as she tells the doctor about her farts and sex with her boyfriend.

She’s like a puppy rescued from a dogfighting ring.

Okay I know I’m jumping around like an arctic fox in a field of fresh snow, but I’m not as good at flowing through space and time as the camera is; it never feels so chaotic when you’re transitioning from Tatiana’s face to Tatiana’s face, you know? Anyway, Kendall goes down the Rabbit Hole for a check-up with Cosima, but Cosima’s the one who looks like she could use a doctor’s attention. Mrs. S asks if Cosima needs more bone marrow from Kira, but only one Dr. Cormier can heal Cosima now. (Also, she can’t run more than one treatment at once, lest it ruin the research.)
