Morning Brew – Taylor Swift honors Ruby Rose at the GLAAD Awards

Happy Monday, Brewbies! I’m stepping in today while Trish has the day off.

Just when you thought we might get a respite from all the queer lady character killing happening lately, The Vampire Diaries went and killed off both of its lesbians. Come on! Check back later for Lindsay’s recap of the episode, but in the meanwhile you can check out articles about how TVD added itself to the Bury Your Gays list. Here, here and here.

Soccer star Abby Wambach was arrested this weekend for a DUI. Wambach took to Facebook and issued an apology for her actions.

Last night I was arrested for DUII in Portland after dinner at a friend’s house. Those that know me, know that I have…

Hats off to Scottish Labour Party leader Kezia Dugdale who recently came out in an interview. Of her same-sex relationship, Dugdale had this to say. “I have a female partner. I don’t talk about it very much because I don’t feel I need to. And there’s something too about how meteoric my career has been. I am generally calm, almost serene. I don’t get easily stressed or battered. But I need a bit of stability to do that, and that means my private life is my private life. That’s the thing I just have to have that nobody gets to touch, and that gives me the strength to be calm elsewhere.”

Australian teenager Ally Hocking Howe spoke out for her lesbian moms and queer folks everywhere when she gave a speech at the Why Not conference in Sydney. When pamphlets against same-sex marriage were issued at her high school, Ally decided to take a stand.

K-Stew and Soko continue their reign of cuteness in LA this weekend. Here they are being adorable in Paris too.

The GLAAD Awards brought out the stars big time this weekend in LA. Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, presented by none other than surprise guest, Taylor Swift. Demi Lovato took home the Vanguard Award and Carol won for Outstanding Film. Sense8, Transparent, and Bessie also picked up awards. Here’s a full list of the awards presented that night. Check back on AfterEllen later and we will have some red carpet interviews to share with you.

How about some pics from the event too?

This week in lesbian-ish TV (thanks Roni!):
