“The 100” recap (3.09): The Eternal Flame

Indra hears the horn, too, from the cave where she’s trying very hard not to kill Bellamy. She knows it means there’s a new Commander, which means her Heda is dead, so she heads off to Polis, leaving Octavia a message with Bellamy.

When Octavia wakes up, she falls off her horse and stumbles back toward Arkadia. She gets close enough to see Lincoln be executed, brutally, graphically, kneeling in the mud in the rain. As Lincoln’s body falls into a puddle, Octavia’s face goes from devastated to royally pissed. Pike will pay for this.

Also my face when this happened.

Lincoln’s loss was a blow in many ways. His character was a fundamental bridge between trikru and skaikru. Octavia has been through enough that she didn’t need to see the love of her life brutally slain. Plus, on a real-life level, we have a person of color being shot execution style by law enforcement. But, like I said in the beginning of this, I think most of what can be said about what was wrong with killing Lincoln like this is similar to what has been said about Lexa, so I’m hoping this is a lesson being learned along with the “Bury your tropes, not us” message we’ve been spreading. As long as we keep talking about it, keep demanding to be heard.

Ste yuj, Ladykru.

“Stealing Fire” feels fest in the comments, ready set go.
