Saffron Burrows and Gretchen Mol have a secret affair on Season 2 of “Mozart in the Jungle”
Out actress Saffron Burrows shines as New York Symphony cellist Cynthia in Mozart in the Jungle and in Season 2, now available on Amazon, she enters into a salacious relationship with a new character played by Gretchen Mol (Puccini for Beginners). Cynthia and her fellow musicians are being represented by a new union lawyer, Nina, (Gretchen) who makes her interest in Cynthia clear from the beginning, praising how beautiful she is, and how distracting she can be when they are talking shop.
The attraction is mutual, and Cynthia and Nina engage in a secret affair, hoping no one will catch on they are mixing business with pleasure.
We got a glimpse of Cynthia’s bisexuality last season in a flashback scene, but she was otherwise involved with men. This season, her relationship with Nina is full of passion, possibly fueled even more by the naughtiness of their involvement. When another member of the orchestra finds out about their romance, he scolds Cynthia, telling her it’s a bad idea that could get in the way of necessary negotiations. But Cynthia is in a hazy cloud of bliss, having just made love with Nina who surprised her by flying to Mexico to watch her perform.
Saffron Burrows and Gretchen Mol have easy chemistry, and Mozart is an enjoyable drama that also follows Lola Kirke‘s Hailey as a young member of the symphony, trying to figure out her relationship with the eccentric maestro Rodrigo (Gael Garcia Bernal). Cynthia also acts as a mentor of sorts to Hailey, and their evolving friendship is another pleasing part of the ensemble series.
If you haven’t watched Season 1, it is also available on Amazon, and will give you more insight into the central characters and their relationships to one another and the symphony. Fans of classical music will especially enjoy this delicious drama and the inside look at the lives of the individuals behind the instruments.
Season 2 of Mozart in the Jungle is on Amazon now.
