Amazon picks up Tig Notaro’s “One Mississippi”

Amazon announced the six new pilots it would be picking up for full seasons in the next year, and among them was Tig Notaro‘s semi-autobiographical One Mississippi. The dark comedy stars Tig as herself, aka a stand-up comic whose “deals with the complex reentry into her childhood hometown of Bay Saint Lucille, Mississippi, to deal with the unexpected death of her mother, the interminable life of the party, Caroline.” Casey Wilson plays Tig’s girlfriend, Brooke, and will hopefully be back for more when the show returns with all new episodes.

One Mississippi will be the first comedy both starring and featuring an out lesbian at its center since Ellen DeGeneres came out during one of the final episodes of her show, Ellen, in 1997.

Amazon also picked up Dana Calvo‘s Good Girls Revolt, a feminist TV series based on the true story about women working in a misogynistic 1960s newsroom. Last month one of the show’s stars, Anna Camp, told us that there were queer storylines ahead if things go as planned and the show got picked up, so that’s one to stay tuned to as well.
