“Carol,” Lily Tomlin and other LGBT shows, films and people up for Golden Globes

The Golden Globes nominations are here, and just like in yesterday’s SAG Award announcement, LGBT films, shows and people made a strong showing.

Carol is up for Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Director – Motion Picture (Todd Haynes), Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama (Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett) and Best Score. The Danish Girl has Alicia Vikander up against Rooney and Cate with Eddie Redmayne nominated for Best Actor. The movie’s only other nomination is for Best Score.

Lily Tomlin is up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy for Grandma, and also for her role in Netflix’s Grace & Frankie (Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy). Lesbian writer Emma Donoghue was nominated for Best Screenplay — Motion Picture (Room).

In television, Empire is nominated for Best TV Series, Drama, while Orange is the New Black and Transparent face off in Best TV Series, Comedy. American Horror Story: Hotel is up for Best TV Movie or Limited-Series.

Viola Davis is nominated for her queer HTGAWM character (Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama), Uzo Aduba for her OITNB role (Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Limited-Series, or TV Movie), and Queen Latifah (Bessie) takes on Lady Gaga (AHS: Hotel) for Best Actress in a Limited-Series or TV Movie.

The Golden Globes will be awarded during a live ceremony on January 10 on NBC.
