The CW renews six hit series

The CW jumped out in front of the other networks yesterday, announcing the renewal of six of their series: Gossip Girl, Supernatural, One Tree Hill, 90210, Smallville and America’s Next Top Model. ANTM is so favored that it’s been greenlit for an additional two seasons, er, cycles.

CW boss Dawn Ostroff released a statement saying: “As we continue to build The CW Network as a destination for young women, these six shows have clearly contributed to strengthening our schedule … by securing these signature hits for next season, we’re furthering our commitment to deliver high-quality, original programming to our viewers, advertisers and affiliates.”

I love that while every other network panders to the male 18-49 demographic, Ostroff just comes right out and says the CW is the place for teenage girls. I mean, I watch Gossip Girl every week. I’m not judging, I’m just sayin’.

Chances for a second season of Privileged are slim, but the freshman show is not as doomed as the bomb Reaper.

I’m glad Gossip Girl is coming back, because if it got canceled I’d probably cry, and then when people asked why I was crying I’d have to say, “Gossip Girl,” and that’s when you lose all your friends.

Are you happy to hear about the early-renewals? What do you want to see happen on your favorite CW shows next season?
