The Queerest Moments of the 2015 MTV VMAs

Last night’s Video Music Awards has given the internet a lot of feelings, mostly about Nicki Minaj calling Miley Cyrus a bitch, Miley’s response and Kanye West‘s 20-minute Vanguard speech. Let’s talk about the queer moments of the nights, shall we?

1. Queer celebrity women in the house.

From Miley hosting to attendees like Cara Delevingne, Stella Maxwell, bisexual singer Halsey, Jillian Michaels and partner Heidi Rhodes, there were a few of us there to represent.

2. Speaking of Miley, she was pretty out and proud on stage. LGBT members of her Happy Hippie Foundation introduced her final performance (which included a dance troupe of drag queens), and she also wore an entire rainbow-themed outfit. She also joked that Jared Leto was the woman with whom she had her “first lesbian experience.”

3. Demi Lovato performed “Cool for the Summer.” And she popped a cherry on stage and briefly rubbed her bum on Iggy Azalea.

4. Taylor Swift used her Best Video speech to say she’s over gender norms. She brought her “Bad Blood” squad up to the stage with her and ended saying, “I know there’s been a lot of discussion about this video and what it means, but I’m just happy that in 2015 we live in a world where boys can play princesses and girls can play soldiers.”

And in case you are a fan of a bunch of pretty girls holding hands, that same group of Swifties has got you covered:

As for any girl-on-girl kissing as we’ve expected from VMAs past, we were treated to replays of the infamous Britney/Madonna kiss in some transitions, and Faking It promos on commercial breaks. So hopefully those of you who watched in hopes of anything girl-on-girl felt satiated. If you didn’t, Faking It returns tonight on MTV.
