Winning Women at the 2015 GLAAD Media Awards

AfterEllen was at the GLAAD Media Awards at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Saturday night, where so many great LGBT actors, musicians and public figures and allies came out to support the nominees and and winners. We got some great interviews on the red carpet we’ll be rolling out all week, but first, we thought we’d share some highlights.

Ellen DeGeneres presented Kerry Washington with the Vanguard award, which is presented annually “to a member of the entertainment community who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people.”

Kerry, who has played several queer roles and currently stars on the very LGBT-friendly Scandal, acceptance speech brought the house to their feet in rousing applause as she spoke out about the importance of being an ally.

Other winners of the night include Transparent for Outstanding Comedy, How to Get Away With Murder for Outstanding Drama and The Imitation Game for Outstanding Film – Wide Release. Check out the gallery of photos from the night below, and check back soon for interviews with Samira Wiley, Rita Volk, Yara Martinez and more.
