“Buffy” reunion at PaleyFest

As you’ve probably heard, last night the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunited at the Paley Center in Hollywood. Here are some links to coverage of the event. (Unforunately, Alyson Hannigan and Eliza Dushku did not attend, but Amber Benson, Charisma Carpenter, Joss Whedon, Emma Caulfield, Michelle Trachtenberg, Marti Noxon and Sarah Michelle Gellar did.)

I’ve included excerpts, but be sure to click the links for more!

1. Coverage on Whedonesque:

The first question of the Q&A (of course) is: Would Joss and cast ever consider making a new Buffy movie? Joss casually replies, “Oh, I don’t know,” before turning to Sarah and asking, “Well, you wanna?” Sarah just smiles and says, “Eh, sure. Why the hell not.” Half the crowd faints. The other half suffers a severe heart attack.

Asked about a Buffy Musical on Broadway, Joss didn’t rule it out. Asked if they would participate, most of the panel indicated that they would. Sarah was not among them. She was more like, “No way,” but laughingly.

2. TVGuide.com’s Michael Ausiello:
Greenwalt revealed that shortly after word leaked that Willow was going to be coming out of the closet, he got a call from an unnamed WB exec who said, “Is [Joss] really going to do this gay thing?” Whedon threatened to quit when the network asked him to leave Willow and Tara’s first kiss on the cutting-room floor. “It’s the one time I pulled that out,” he said. “And they were like, ‘No, it’s OK. Leave it in.'”
3. Watch With Kristin (E! Online):
Sarah didn’t know until someone told her tonight that Buffy’s hooking up with a girl in the comic. Joss, on Buffy’s temporary change of team: “They have a lot of time on their hands…What? None of you went to college?”

4. CNN article:

Sarah Michelle Gellar said she was surprised to find out moments before the reunion that her character recently had her first sexual tryst with a woman in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight,” a comic book series that picks up where the show ended. Gellar also reminisced about auditioning 11 times before landing the role of Buffy Summers.

“All my friends felt sorry for me because I was on a midseason replacement on a network no one had heard of on a show based on a movie that wasn’t all that,” the 30-year-old actress said.

5. SciFi.com:
Asked about future Buffy TV or film projects, Whedon said, “My answer would be, like, there are so many stars that would have to align [for them to happen]. But, you know, there’s a reason I worked with all of these people for so long. They’re enormously talented. And clearly, from the comic, it’s a story that I can’t let go of. I think it would be really cool.”
6. IF magazine:
ON WHETHER BUFFY SHOULD BE WITH ANGEL OR SPIKE: BRENDON: Given the comic book, I would say Willow. GELLAR: I did not know about this until five minutes ago. Someone asked me, “how do you feel about Buffy’s new relationship, she’s with a woman.” I said “she’s with Willow.” But it wasn’t Willow.
7. TVSquad:
Amber Benson was asked why she declined returning to the show. At first she joked that she was having sex with Marlon Brando at the time and needed to be by his bedside during his last days. (Whoa.) Then she said that she was directing a project in London and just wasn’t available.
8. BuzzSugar:
Gellar said she had no idea until five minutes before the panel took the stage that Buffy had gotten it on with slayer Satsu in the latest comic book. Trachtenberg also had no idea what had happened to Dawn in the comic series. “If these guys were real nerds,” Whedon said, “we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
