“Sisterhood of Hip Hop” recap (1.8):

It’s the Season 1 finale of Sisterhood of Hip Hop. Thanks for reading the recaps, which have been fun to write because I love this show.

Diamond and Nyemiah are having such a nice conversation about the showcase. Diamond is explaining why she can’t be a part of it, because she doesn’t feel ready just yet with her new sound and band. They are smiling at each other and everything!

The next day, Diamond gets everyone together for lunch and is, of course, late. But she brought someone with her…..it’s Eve! Eve congratulates all of the women while they try not to freak the fuck out and Diamond remains pleased with herself. The aspiring rappers all get to ask Eve for advice.

The whole table praises Siya, saying she’s breaking down barriers and killing it on stage. Eve says she’ll be coming to the showcase and mimosas are raised in a toast.

The night of the show, Renaye is drinking a lot of cocktails and Siya calls her out for being drunk and messy. Uh oh. Diamond comes by to wish everyone luck. All of the women look amazing and ready to kill it.

First up is Nyemiah Supreme, doing “Downgrade” and everyone is feeling her, including her male dancers. Bia is femmed up and going hard on her slow jam. Brianna Perry looks fierce as hell doing “I’m That B.I.T.C.H.” but it’s a little turned down for this kind of showcase. The crowd is ready to get turnt up. Luckily Siya is ready to do just that.

Eve says, “This bitch right here… “I love her. She is dope!”

Meanwhile, Renaye is all, “SHE DIDN’T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE ME.” Then says, “Boom, bitch, bye.” Ugh, there’s that mess Siya was talking about.

Nyemiah’s manager Alex praises her for a job well done. Bia’s manager says he’s proud of her. And Renaye is cussing Siya out for not acknowledging her.

“I think the first thing Renaye should have said to me was ‘You did a great job, you killed it,'” Siya said. Renaye calls her “Fake as fuck” and goes off. Siya is in tears as she tries to deal with her selfish girlfriend, but Diamond is like “OH HELL NO” and says no one can do that with her homie Siya.

Diamond asks Renaye to leave….and then throws a drink at her. A brawl ensues but bodyguards are holding everyone back, as is Kiki, Brianna’s mom. And that’s the end of that night, which should have been Siya’s time to shine.

Brianna is back in Miami graduating from university. She says she’s ready to put the books up. Now she’s celebrating with a party. Trina comes to show support. Loving all the female-to-female energy and love showing on this show.

Diamond is in the studio with Rico Love, who has worked with Beyonce, Usher and Nelly. He wants her to say “FUCK YA’LL. I DON’T FUCK WITH YA’LL.” He thinks everyone can relate to that. She gets in the booth and writes across her paper “DON’T FUCK AROUND WITH NONE OF YA’LL.” Diamond explains she’s been keeping all of this inside of her, which I think Renaye would disagree with, but otherwise, it sounds great!

Siya and Renaye are coming together to talk after taking some time apart, yet again. Siya asks why she acted ratchet at the showcase. Renaye said she thought Siya would shout her out on stage and Siya calls her out as selfish. She says she’s been there to support Renaye and never gotten that back. Renaye says she’s alone in New York. Siya said “I wanted you to be on my side, on my team. I wanted this shit to happen together!” Renaye apologizes and is softening, but Siya says she’s broken down. They’re both crying and Siya is clearly at a crossroads in their relationship.

The drama isn’t working for either of them. Siya is drained and needs to focus on her. “I’m gonna go my way, you’re gonna go your way. I tried everything I possibly could.” Renaye is probably the most level-headed she’s been yet and says “OK. Just send me home.” And like that, it’s over.

Diamond is back in Miami and practicing with her “hot” all-girl band. (Except the drummer.) Brianna comes to visit and give some constructive criticism, which Diamond says she is looking for. Look how grown she is now. The band starts to play and Diamond takes the mic. Kiki is there, too, and she is bouncing in her seat. It’s all happening!

Siya goes to meet a music producer named Reef. Irv Gotti sent her and Reef explains he’s been working with, well, everybody: Lil’ Wayne, Nas, Rick Ross. Reef wants to help Siya put a hit together. Ja Rule comes in and calls her “baby girl” and “ma” and says he hears she’s the new thing in town. She is so geeked but the pressure is on because she’s in the booth in front of a room of heavy hitters. (Side note: I’m hoping Ja Rule has become less homophobic since 2007.)

Ja Rule says he likes what she’s doing and tells her to come out of the booth to have a conversation. They sit together on the couch, and Siya says she deserves to be heard. Ja Rule says it was a good thing she had to go through a bunch of shit before she got to a point where she’s feeling good about where she’s at. He says she’s working with the right producer in Reef. “You’re on your way to doing something special,” Ja says, “And I think you’re gonna kill ’em.” TEAM SIYA.

All of the rappers are going to celebrate with bottles. They go around the table and toast one another for their progress, their happiness, their singleness. Bia got signed, Brianna graduated, Diamond discovered her new sound, Nyemiah found her ability to open up, and Siya is finally free of negativity. Diamond says she’s so happy for Siya and that she has to focus on killing the game. Siya says she’s got no distractions, and the sisters end with this gem from Brianna.

And that’s a wrap on Season 1! But make sure you watch Siya’s music video for “MVP” and follow her on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter so you can keep up with the big things she’s going to do.
