Morning Brew – Niecy Nash to play Mindy’s lesbian rival on “The Mindy Project”

Good morning! I hope you had a great weekend. I was in Chicago for the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association Conference and then flew back for the VMAs yesterday. Tonight, the Emmys! All in the name of bringing you the most lesbian content pop culture has to offer. I can’t wait to share the video interviews I nabbed with stars last night, and hopefully tonight will be just as fruitful. If you missed any of our red carpet pics, check out our Instagram.

Ryan Murphy tweeted out a new American Horror Story: Freak Show teaser and, despite its creepiness, I can’t wait.

AHS star Sarah Paulson looked gorgeous at Emmys parties over the weekend and revealed actors lie about their pre-show rituals of eating burgers and breast-feeding to lose weight. Also, she takes Advil to deal with her uncomfortable shoes at events.

Jessica Alba is an ally! Always good to have another one.

Congrats to Maria Walsh, who was crowned Ireland’s Rose of Tralee. She’s the first lesbian to win the beauty pageant, which is part of an annual festival. Maria tells a reporter:

“To me, being gay is normal. To me, being gay is natural. I told my parents, and they were supportive, as I knew they would be.”
Speaking of beauty queens, Miss Spain 2013, nee Patricia Rodriguez, came out on her Instagram by posting a cute photo of herself and her girlfriend.

I need to go to Spain! But I’ll probably steer clear of Kenya for now, based on this piece about out lesbian Mary Muthui and the oppression she faces in her own country.

If Nikki Newman goes gay for Meredith Baxter on Young and the Restless, I might just have to start watching again. Luckily for me, my mom and aunt are very invested in this show so I’ll get their daily recaps.

Yael Stone and Natasha Lyonne did a joint interview with MetroWeekly and the show’s second season gay sex quotient is discussed.

While we’re talking OITNB, Lori Petty is returning for Season 3. Looks like Lolly could be coming to Litchfield!

Dave Chapelle had a surprise set at the Oddball Festival in Hartford this week and talked about watching a gay documentary, Gay in America. He announces he finds lesbians “sexy sometimes” and then discusses his having an altercation with a lesbian after he bombed a show. He says he “didn’t even know she was a woman” at first and calls her “the lesbian” before saying he threatened to “smack the shit out of her.” Sigh. It starts at around 10 minutes in.

This young woman came out to her grandma and results are both funny and very sad.

Jenna Wolfe and Stephanie Gosk are pregnant with their second child. Congrats to the couple!

Niecy Nash will play Mindy Kaling’s lesbian rival on an upcoming episode of The Mindy Project. This should be good!

If you’re planning on watching Gotham, you’ll want to watch this four-part prequel series that explains the mythology of the show.

This Dazed interview with Guinevere Turner about American Psycho is worth a read.
