Morning Brew – Amber Heard talks sexuality in “W” magazine

Good morning! I hope you had a lovely extra long weekend.

Rookie Blue star Iliyah O’Brien spoke highly of her lesbian fans in an interview with the Times Colonist.

Out teacher Eileen Gamble writes about her experience coming out as a lesbian in her classroom for The Irish Times.

South African President Jacob Zuma has appointed out lesbian Lynne Brown as Public Enterprises minister, making her the first openly gay cabinet member.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor says she thinks gay themes are the next big thing in Indian films.

“It’s completely OK to be gay. I think movies can influence the way people think sometimes. And if we do start making love stories or we start making movies about people who are amazing human beings. people who have done something in life, people who are inspirational who aren’t necessarily only straight, I think people will start appreciating them more.”

The Daily Mail things Ruby Rose copped Justin Bieber’s style, to which she says, “I have been dressing like a lesbian a lot longer.”

Over at Slate: “I’m Gay, So How Did My Life Get So Straight?” and an interview with novelist Emma Donoghue on her new book Frog Music.

Ashley Benson said she felt she had to protect her Spring Breakers co-star Selena Gomez from a lesbian make-out scene in the movie. She told Complex:

“The four of us were filming this motel party scene and we had to observe what was going on and be in character. My and Vanessa [Hudgens’] characters loved to party, so we couldn’t do anything to break that persona. But I remember looking over to the floor at these two girls rolling around and making out completely naked. At that moment, I literally closed Selena’s eyes. I felt like I had to mother her.”
I think this calls for a Spring Breakers/Pretty Little Liars crossover.

Lynn Sherr penned Sally Ride: America’s First Woman in Space, and talked with Scientific American about writing the biography of her late friend. A lot of it has to do with her hiding her lesbianism from the people in her life:

I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t say that [her secrecy] hurt me a tiny bit. By the same token, it’s her life and she gets to live it the way she wants. The fact that she never mentioned Tam, it hurts me-not that she left me out of her life but that I was unable to share it with her. But I’ll take what I got because she was a wonderful friend and we had a lot of terrific moments together.
Amber Heard is not ashamed of her bisexuality. She talked with W magazine for their new issue and spoke on her relationship with Tasya van Ree:
“I didn’t want to look like I was hiding anything. I’m not, and wasn’t ever, ashamed. I don’t imagine myself, my work, or my life, fitting into any kind of standardised path. In fact, the idea of there even being a standard freaks me out a lot.”

Amber Heard is not a basic bitch, OK?
