“Wentworth” recap (2.1): Superfreak

AND THEN, AND THEN YOU GUYS FRANKY GOES AND HAS SUPER GRAPHIC SEX WITH KIM.

wentworth21.8WELL GODDAMN.

I know it’s supposed to be hot, but it makes me uncomfortable, both because Kim is like “SLOW DOWN” the whole time and because it feels like the writers trying to placate lesbian fans by substituting a relationship of real depth and emotion for some sensationalistic sex. Tell me how you felt about it in the comments.

The next day, after another long night of agonizing withdrawal, Bea decides she definitely preferred LaLa Land to real life, so she asks Franky for some more sedatives.  Franky, of course, is only to happy to keep Bea as a doped up zombie incapable of challenging her, so she bribes the blonde guard to help her out. Except as it turns out the blonde guard is also who tipped Joan off about the drugs in the laundry, so who even knows whose side she’s on.

wentworth21.10WHAT IS YOUR DEAL/NAME.

Franky scores Bea the drugs, and she’s just about to down a handful when Liz bursts in and tells her to stop.  Bea (justifiably) says that her life has no purpose, so she may as well check out for it, so Liz is like “What about revenge? That’s a purpose!”  Liz is always super helpful like that. But I guess it worked for Inigo Montoya.

As Bea finds new strength, Boomer gets busted with the cell phone (she was begging her boyfriend not to shag that dreadful Rochelle, poor thing).

I guess that means she’ll be stuck in the slot for a couple episodes, which could seriously alter the balance of power.  Also, Joan offers Doreen the chance to grow her own vegetable garden in exchange for her cooperation. Frankly, I’m finding it hard to muster much interest.

The one interesting bit of business is when Bea takes one of her pills to escape to dreamland one last time and say goodbye to Debbie, which in dreamland means seeing her off to the prom.

wentworth21.11DEBBIE YOUR IMAGINARY DRESS IS HIDEOUS.

Of course, the date at the door is Brayden, and Bea wakens from her slumber full of a lust for vengeance.

wentworth21.12MY NAME IS BEA SMITH. YOU KILLED MY DAUGHTER. PREPARE TO DIE.

I really don’t want to give up on Wentworth. I want to believe it can find itself again.  But this episode was haunted by the ghosts people long gone: Jaqs, Erica, and Debbie. I wonder if the show can live without them.

Let me know what you think, and see you next week.
