Morning Brew – Brittney Griner to release memoir in April

Good morning!

First thing’s first: Thank you Jan Brewer! The Arizona governor vetoed the bill that would allow businesses to refuse service to LGBT patrons. Good riddance!

Tomorrow I’m headed to Washington D.C. for the LGBT Media Convening, where all of the queer journalists get together for panel discussions and guest speakers (Andrea Mitchell!) and a party or two. The event is generously sponsored by the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association and the Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Fund and this year I’m happy to be on the hosting committee. Why do you care? Well, firstly, if you want to know what we’ll be talking about during the weekend, follow along on Twitter with #LGBTMedia13. Secondly, we’re having a meet-up on Saturday night for any readers in the D.C. area at the Green Lantern. I’d love to meet you if you can make it. And it’s not just me – bloggers and editors from other sites you read will be there, too, some I’m excited to meet for the first time, like Kimberley McLeod from Elixher and Riese Bernard from Autostraddle. Anyway, we’ll be having some fun discussions on the state of queer media and where we’ll be going in the future, so keep up with us if you are into all that!

Julianne Moore told E! she loved Ellen Page’s coming out and she’s psyched to work on Freeheld with the young actress.

“It (the speech) was really wonderful. I was very happy for her…. I’m excited about it (out movie). It’s great.”

If The National Enquirer is going to report on “lesbian exes,” they are going to have to know we sometimes stay friends.

Ari Fitz talked about last night’s Real World: Ex-Plosion episode with Zap2It. Here’s how she feels after seeing the episode, where she was confronted about the idea of being trans based on dressing more masculine:

“One of the things I’m upset about with myself after watching the episode is that my immediate reaction to being labeled as a trans person without actually being a trans person was negative. That was so f***ing unfair of me to so many people. What if a straight woman back in the day was miscorrectly labeled as a lesbian and she reacted negatively? That’s rude, you know?”
Brittney Griner has a book coming out! I’m a sucker for a good memoir. Jane Lynch is going to guest star on Girl Meets World. Yessssss.

It’s a clip from Orphan Black Season 2! Is it April 19 yet?

I loved this Twitter exchange yesterday.
