Morning Brew – Jane Lynch and other celebs react to Ellen Page’s coming out

Good morning! Did you do anything besides watch Ellen Page’s coming out video?

Bustle has a roundup of celebrity responses to Ellen’s speech, including Jane Lynch’s telling People:

“When I was younger, I lied by omission. She should give herself a break and not call it ‘lying.’ But I know what it is to feel like you can’t be open and honest about your orientation. Good for her!”

Meanwhile Forbes writes about why Ellen’s coming out matters. Every time someone comes out we have to justify why it matters. Can we all just agree that it does?

One last EP note: E! took down the article that Ellen mentioned in her speech, the one that referred to her dressing “like a massive man.” Seriously, F the Fashion Police.

Moving on to other things! Do you like beer? I do! Hackney’s Beavertown Brewery has a new out head brewer named Jan Merrick. From an interview:

“If I would go down to the boozer with my colleagues and have a pint of cask ale and really appreciate it knowing that I was the person that made it, they wouldn’t care if I was a woman, American or a lesbian. I had to earn my keep, like anyone, but once I had it they are friends for life. It is the beer that comes first at the end of the day.”
As it should be.

Angelina Jolie wore a tux to the BAFTAs this weekend. Meow.

Genevieve Angelson has been cast in the role that Mamie Gummer was originally playing in Backstrom, aka the degayed cop. TVLine makes no mention of her sexuality in their description of her character:

Angelson will play Detective Nicole Gravely, an ex-Vice Squad officer and the heart and soul of Portland’s Serious Crimes Unit. Second in command to Det. Backstrom (Rainn Wilson), Gravely is tasked with not only keeping the unit together in the face of Backstrom’s personality quirks but ensuring that his unorthodox investigatory methods hold up in court. An admirable cop, focused, intuitive, good-humored, proud and empathetic; she serves as the best decoder for Backstrom’s unorthodox and chaotic methodology. And when necessary, she’s willing to throw caution to the wind.

Rosie O’Donnell had vertical gastric sleeve surgery which she said she did to help save her life. She’s lost 40 pounds!
