When Black Sails premieres on Starz this January, we’ll have two reasons to watch: Eleanor and Max. The newly released videos of character profiles give us a glimpse inside both of these women, and you’ll see why we’re recapping this show about the pirates of Nassau in 1715.
Eleanor Guthrie (Hannah New) is “a match for any man.” She’s a saloon owner on the island where “pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers” congregate, but is also involved with “a vast smuggling operation specializing in turning the pirates’ loot into profit.”
Max (Jessica Parker Kennedy) is a prostitute, but seems to have an affinity for Eleanor. A description of her character says she’s “always at her side” and is a” close friend and sometimes lover.”
Black Sails premieres on January 25 at 9 p.m. on Starz. There will be eight episodes in the first season and they’re already at work on the second season. Let’s hope Eleanor and Max survive to stick around!
