Morning Brew – Mary Lambert’s “She Keeps Me Warm” sung on “The Voice”

Good morning! I’m so happy to say that my former state Illinois has approved marriage equality, and not a minute too soon!

Last night on The Voice Kat Robichaud sang Mary Lambert‘s “She Keeps Me Warm” on the live show. Mary herself tweeted she was watching the show and was brought to tears by the performance. You can vote for Kat by buying the single on iTunes, going to the show’s website or calling (877) 553-3704.

Speaking of Mary Lambert, she looks phenomenal as part of the Out 100 this year.

Also on the list, politicos Roberta Kaplan and Hilary Rosen and Prop. 8 winners Kris Perry and Sandy Stier.

How is President Obama doing on LGBT issues? Politifact says fair, with room for improvement.

If you’re in the Baltimore area, check out Joan Cox‘s exhibit “Taboo.” Her mixed media depicts all kinds of lesbian couples and “brings to light the genuine and tender connection experienced when two women fall in love.” I love her work.

Sometimes people wonder if we still need LGBT specific things like film festivals or book awards. The Guardian argues the latter encourages LGBT authors to be more visible. (You might get some new reads out of the column, too.)
