Morning Brew – “Emmerdale” actress Michelle Hardwick comes out

Good morning!

Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick has come out as gay and happy with her love Rosie Nicholl. She said her family and fans have been accepting and just wish she’d felt more comfortable to come out sooner. You can’t ask for a better reception than that!

Tegan and Sara discussed their career trajectory with the Ottawa Citizen, sharing three questions they wanted answered about the band before they recorded Heartthrob: “How can Tegan and Sara be a better band? What are we doing wrong? Why don’t we win Junos?” I hope they found that the answer was “Nothing, it’s just patriarchy. Damn the man.”

This Thursday night is the premieres of the new Jane Lynch-hosted game show Hollywood Game Night. Celebrities who will show up for the first round include Kristen Bell, Alyson Hannigan and Lisa Kudrow. Sold!

I enjoyed this EW piece about famous on-screen gal pals, which has Cynthia Nixon, Lily Tomlin and Rosie in their famous roles from Sex and the City, 9 to 5 and A League of their Own, respectively. Also on the list, Queen Latifah as the lesbian Cleo in Set it Off.

In case you wondered if seeing lesbians on TV actually makes a difference when it comes to equality, Wired wrote this piece to say DUH.

Brian de Palma said he put Rachel McAdams in the bitchy boss role in Passion because he loved her in Mean Girls. He also talked about the sexual tension between her character and Noomi Rapace‘s in the film:

What were they up to, is the question. They did all kinds of things that surprised me because they are very easy with each other, and all their kind of sexual stuff that’s played off each other, like when Rachel’s at the cocktail party and she’s sending Noomi over to interact with somebody, and opens up her shirt a little bit and says, “Show a little skin.” In terms of the kisses that they do, they tried a whole bunch of different ways. And they were pretty explosive.

Good lord.
