About a month ago, Dorothy Snarker gave you the news about Amber Benson‘s new film, Race You to the Bottom. Well, the reviews are in, and it should be no surprise to Benson fans that she’s pretty much the only good thing about the movie.
The New York Times said, “Ms. Benson is a lovely actress with a vulnerability that can be extremely touching, but she enjoyed more chemistry with Alyson Hannigan on Buffy the Vampire Slayer than she does with Mr. [Cole] Williams.”
Duh. And that’s why the Times is my favorite newspaper.
Elsewhere in Post-Buffyland, Alyson Hannigan can still be seen weekly on How I Met Your Mother, and can be heard in the new comedy film Farce of the Penguins. Farce parodies the documentary March of the Penguins using real penguin footage.
Alyson is credited as the “Hottie Penguin,” which doesn’t sound like a very meaty role until you read some of the other credits: “He’s so gross Penguin,” “Hey, that’s my ass! Penguin,” “Pissed Penguin” and “What’s global warming? Penguin.”
Some celebs who lent their voices to the film got to play penguins with names: Christina Applegate as Melissa, Drea de Matteo (Adriana from The Sopranos) as Ester and Harvey Fierstein as Sheila, to list a few.
I don’t know. Penguins are cute and all, but I don’t think this one can be saved, even if it does feature Alyson Hannigan as a hottie bird who can’t fly and Harvey Fierstein as anyone named “Sheila.”
