We’re getting a time-traveling interspecies lesbian ninja couple for Christmas! Thanks, “Doctor Who!”
Yesterday, BBC unleashed the first promo photo and press release from the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special, and while most of the world was like, “Whoa, Doctor, U MAD?,” the lesbian world scrolled a little farther and saw this glorious phrase: “The Doctor [will] cross paths with homoreptillian Silurian Madame Vastra and her cohort Jenny.” And by “cohort,” BBC means “lovah.” Because these two are a time-traveling interspecies lesbian ninja couple. A couple couple. We first met Vastra and Jenny last season in “A Good Man Goes to War.” They were living in London, posing as a classy lady and her handmaid, but actually they were working as vigilante badasses. They killed Jack the Ripper, for starters. Then, they helped the Doctor track down Amy and her baby while making all sorts of naughty jokes and endearing them into our hearts forever. To wit:
Madame Vastra: I’m sorry; was I being insensitive again, dear? I don’t know why you put up with me. [Lashes her tongue halfway across the room.] Jenny: [Sheepish grin] Madame Vastra: [Smirk]The lesbian fan response was so overwhelming after Vastra and Jenny’s appearance that Steven Moffat and Neil Gaiman even joked about giving them their own spin-off. Some clever lezzers launched a Facebook Fan Page, and you wouldn’t believe how awesome some of the fan art has been of these two. Just scroll through their Tumblr tag and be amazed.
Maybe the Christmas special will double as a backdoor pilot to reintroduce the world’s favorite samurai sword-wielding alien-humanoid lesbian-thespian crime-fighting team! Probably not, but a girl can dream. Are you excited that Vastra and Jenny are returning to Doctor Who?
