I just read that a new Portishead album will be released April 14 in the U.K. and April 29 in the U.S. It’s been a long time coming – their last release was the 1998 live album. You can get more details here. I’m a big Portishead fan. Beth Gibbons‘ voice is otherworldly. Every time I listen to one of their albums, I just want more and more and more, so this is great news for me. You may think you haven’t heard of them, but if you’re an L Word fan, you have. Remember the music in this scene?

Portishead’s European tour beings March 26, and they’ll play Coachella a month later. I still haven’t seen them in concert, but their live CD and DVD are phenomenal. Here’s the video for “Sour Times,” also from Dummy:
Meanwhile, the new Goldfrapp album, Seventh Tree, hits stores Feb. 26. It’s more “trip” and less “hop” than most of their releases (except for maybe Felt Mountain). You can stream it here (hat tip to Pop Candy). I think I might have to make today a trip-hop day and put together a playlist of Portishead and Goldfrapp – along with Lamb, Supreme Beings of Leisure, Alpha, Télépopmusik, Sneaker Pimps, Zero 7 (featuring Sia), Hooverphonic, Morcheeba and the ever fabulous Massive Attack.
