Top 10 horror movies that make me feel gay

Lately I’ve been haunted (um) by top 10 lists of horror movies or horror villains or horror whatever — yeah, it’s that time of year.

I won’t try to explain the human list-making impulse — though I once knew a guy who made lots of lists and also saved coffee grounds and named his socks, so I’m inclined to think it’s at least a mild form of OCD. Instead of worrying myself further, I’ll just offer a list of my own.

Top 10 horror movies that make me feel gay (excluding lesbian vampire films, because those are covered brilliantly in Malinda’s article)

10. Alien (1979) One word: Sigourney.

9. The Craft (1996) Fairuza Balk is scary in a frantic way. You almost believe she could control the Earth, or at least every stick of eyeliner on the Earth.

8. The Watcher in the Woods (1980) Around this time, I was awakening to my own gayness. I’m OLD. Also, Bette Davis is in it!

7. The Blair Witch Project (1999) There were a lot of lesbians in the audience when I saw this. Maybe we thought it was going to be about Blair from The Facts of Life? But there weren’t very many scared people in the audience, contrary to all the crazy press at the time.

6. House of 1000 Corpses (2003) Because Dana (Erin Daniels) is in it. Yes, that’s really enough for me.

5. The Silence of the Lambs (1991) I wonder why.

4. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) Not technically a horror movie, but it does have the word in the title and it makes me feel really gay.

3. Halloween (1978) Two words: Jamie Lee.

2. Scream (1996) I sorta have a thing for Neve. I’m the only person I know who’s seen both The Company and When Will I Be Loved, and who wouldn’t refuse to see them again.

1. Carrie (1976) Because I was totally on her side.
