Looks like Robert Pattinson won’t be giving that bed-head hair a rest any time soon: Summit Entertainment rolled out a release date of June 30, 2010, for the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, in which Kristen Stewart‘s Bella is forced to choose between vampire Edward (Pattinson) and werewolf Jacob. (High school was so much easier when I was a kid.)
Summit’s bravado at jumping into the summer movie season for the first time can easily be attributed to the cool $363 million Twilight has earned so far worldwide. Not bad for a mid-major studio taking a chance that vampire popularity wasn’t a fluke.
While Summit has yet to choose a director for Eclipse, they have once again pegged Melissa Rosenberg to write the script.
The second installment of the Twilight saga, New Moon, is still in the early stages of production. Ashley Greene, who plays Alice Cullen, told Extra last week that she’d just gotten the script and spoken to new director Chris Wentz: “I’m so excited. I finally, finally got the script … and it’s good. It’s really good … I’m really excited to work with Chris. I like it better than the first one. I might be biased because I have a bigger part.”
Parenthetically, I’d like to shout out to Warner Brothers for a second. Hi, Warner Brothers, it’s me, StuntDouble. You see what’s happening up there? While you have been sitting on a completely finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for six months, Summit has released one Twilight movie, started a second and scheduled a third. Do more of that!
There is no word from Summit about whether or not they’ll produce the fourth book in Stephanie Myers’ crazy successful series, but if New Moon fares as well as its predecessor, there’s no reason to think they’ll stop at three.
Does news of Eclipse‘s release date cause your heart to soar? Or are you ready for the sun to set on the Twilight phenomenon?
