The AfterEllen.com Huddle: Hello, Autumn!

Jane Austen called autumn “that season of peculiar and inexhaustible influence on the mind of taste and tenderness, that season which has drawn from every poet, worthy of being read, some attempt at description, or some lines of feeling.” And we couldn’t agree more. This is the weekend where we bid summer adieu, and open our arms to cooler weather and colorful foliage. And, you know, the return of our favorite television shows. (Which is certainly what Jane had in mind when she was waxing poetic about fall.)

For this week’s AfterEllen.com Huddle, we asked our writers: What are you looking forward to most this autumn?

Courtney Gillette: Fall is my favorite season regardless, but pair it with the release of Wild Flag‘s debut album, and I’m in heaven. I first saw the post Sleater-Kinney supergroup live last year, and they were positively electric. Plus, who didn’t miss those Carrie Brownstein leg kicks on stage? Be still my indie rock heart! You can listen to the sleek, ten track album on NPR this week. I’m calling it the soundtrack to my autumn.

Dara Nai: Football parties – getting with friends, eating too many chips and occasionally, watching the actual game. Cooler weather – wearing the jackets I’ve missed all summer, having an excuse to use the word “autumnal” in casual conversation, and getting in my car and not having the computer tell me it’s 108 degrees. Fall television – waiting to see which gets canceled first: Charlie’s Angels or Tim Allen‘s new sitcrap, and seeing how many uptight heads explode when Chaz Bono debuts on DWTS.

Karman Kregloe: My autumn love list is as follows:

1.) Green chili season in New Mexico (some of the contents of which will be delivered directly to my door by the lesbian UPS driver).

2.) Maria Bello in Prime Suspect. Beautiful, intense and slightly terrifying, like if Cat Cora were packing heat instead of a potato ricer.

3.) Amber Heard in The Playboy Club (please don’t tell Gloria Steinem).

4.) Shark Night 3D. I know what I’ll be doing this weekend!

TheLinster: My number one wish for Fall 2011 is this: Temperatures in the 70s. I want to open my windows and be able to go outside for more than 30 seconds. Dallas is too damn hot.

And also: Yvonne Strahovski.

That kind of hot obviously is OK.

Heather Hogan: This fall I am looking forward to long, long, long hikes in the mountain with my pups; the return of Parks and Recreation; more River Song on my TV in the second half of this season’s Doctor Who, and finally getting my letter letting me into Pottermore.com. I’m having a hard time sleeping worrying about getting sorted into Slytherin.

What are you most excited about for autumn?
