The AfterEllen.com Fall Movie Preview

Fall is traditionally the time when the movies turn away from the big booms and unveil their prestige pieces. The smell of Oscar bait wafts through the air and everyone puts their best foot forward. We take a look at some of the films of greatest interest to lesbian and gay women coming to a theater near you.

Plot Points: Lindsay Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba and a lot of machetes slash and bash their way to vengeance.

Gay Points: Lilo, MRod and Alba make it easy on the eyes, even if one of those eyes has a patch.

Plot Points: Alice is back with that girl from Heroes and that guy from Prison Break to get medieval on the zombie legions, again.

Gay Points: Milla Jovovich double fists it, though sadly I don’t mean with Ali Larter.

Plot Points: A high schooler fakes losing her virginity only to have it turn into a modern-day Scarlet Letter.

Gay Points: Emma Stone reminds us of Lindsay Lohan with none of the troubling overtones.

Plot Points: Welcome to a dystopian world where humans are cloned as living organ donors.

Gay Points: Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan might not kiss, as teased, but they are on screen together so that’s something.

Plot Points: A woman’s brother is about to marry her arch nemesis from high school. So, naturally, high jinks ensue.

Gay Points: Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Odette Yustman, Kristin Chenoweth and Betty White star. So there’s got to be someone in there you fancy.

Plot Points: How Facebook was born, i.e. I hate that guy who made that site I am totally addicted to.

Gay Points: Dude, everyone is on Facebook.

Plot Points: The American remake of the critically acclaimed Swedish film Let the Right One In.

Gay Points: Vampires, even when not gay, are kind of gay.

Plot Points: Katherine Heigl reenacts Baby Boom but with that guy who is married to Fergie.

Gay Points: Do the gays still like Katherine Heigl?

Plot Points: Diane Lane portrays the Virginia housewife who owned Triple Crown-winning racing legend Secretariat.

Gay Points: I didn’t know Secretariat was owned by a woman.

Plot Points: A psychiatric ward comedy. No, not a typo.

Gay Points: Lauren Graham for the grown ups, Emma Roberts for the youngsters and Zach Galifianakis for the people who like crazy guys with beards.

Plot Points: A bunch of retired CIA agents get back in the game with hilarious results.

Gay Points: Helen Mirren is hot wielding an automatic weapon and Mary-Louise Parker is also there, and hot.

Plot Points: Kristen Stewart plays a stripper.

Gay Points: See above.

Plot Points: Lisbeth Salander is back for the third installment of the Millennium Trilogy.

Gay Points: Lisbeth, leather and a whole lot of ass kicking.

Plot Points: Animated comedy about a super villain (voiced by Will Ferrell) who defeats his arch nemesis (Brad Pitt) and gets to know a spunky girl reporter (Tina Fey).

Gay Points: You saw that I typed Tina Fey, right?

Plot Points: Naomi Watts stars in this Oscar-baity retelling of the real-life outing (as in cover, not gay) of CIA agent Valerie Plame during the Bush administration.

Gay Points: Brooke Smith also stars. I wonder if she needs glasses in this one.

Plot Points: All-star cast in the adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf from the prolific Tyler Perry.

Gay Points: Not sure, but I am sure you want to see Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington, Anika Noni Rose, Thandie Newton , Loretta Devine, Kimberly Eliseand Macy Gray on screen together.

Plot Points: Rachel McAdams plays a TV producer who is trying to revive a morning program with feuding hosts played by Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford.

Gay Points: Rachel, Diane and it actually looks funny.

Plot Points: The final showdown with Voldemort begins. Oh, kittens, hold me. I’m scared.

Gay Points: It’s Harry freaking Potter, people.

Plot Points: Cher! Christina Aguilera! Kristen Bell! Singing!

Gay Points: Even if it turns out to be Showgirls bad, you know we’re going to be there.

Plot Points: A romantic comedy about a pharmaceutical salesman who hits it big selling Viagra.

Gay Points: Anne Hathaway for the girls, Jake Gyllenhaal for the boys.

Plot Points: Disney’s brings us another of its Princess pictures this time with a spunky heroine without split ends.

Gay Points: Disney has a gay day. And everyone loves a princess.

Plot Points: Natalie Portman plays a ballerina set to take over the lead in Swan Lake when the arrival of a new rival (Mila Kunis) makes her life unravel.

Gay Points: Natalie and Mila kiss and maybe more.

Plot Points: Johnny Depp is an unwitting tourist who runs into a mysterious woman played by Angelina Jolie who leads him into danger and intrigue.

Gay Points: Johnny and Angie are almost too much pretty — almost.

Plot Points: The long-delayed release of the Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor gay crime caper is finally here.

Gay Points: Bring your best gay boyfriend.

Plot Points: The even longer-delayed sequel to the 1982 hit Tron brings us back into the world of light cycles and cyber games.div

Gay Points: Olivia Wilde wears a light-up body suit. Ticket: sold.

Plot Points: A hard-partying actor is visited by his 11-year-old daughter.

Gay Points: Director Sofia Coppola has a unique and often beautiful vision. Also she gave us that wonderful opening shot of Scarlett Johansson’s sheer underwear in Lost in Translation, for which I will always be grateful.
