The 2012 Oscar Nominations!

The Oscar nominations are out, and I’m titillated and outraged and delirious! Perfect!

Some initial comments: Lincoln leads with 12 nominations. The snub of the year is Kathryn Bigelow‘s absence from the directing category, since Zero Dark Thirty is the year’s most adored film. Silver Linings Playbook managed a nomination in every acting category, and that means even Jacki Weaver, who played a mostly insignificant mother role in the movie, garnered a nom. Still, love her. The animated film category is adorable. Amour‘s Emmanuelle Riva is the oldest Best Actress nominee ever at age 85, while Beasts of the Southern Wild‘s Quvenzhane Wallis is the youngest at age 9.

And hooray: Amour scored a Best Picture nomination! A full list of nominees that weren’t announced at the excruciatingly “jokey” ceremony by presenters Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone can be found here. (Look out for Best Documentary Feature nominee How to Survive a Plague about the early years of the AIDS crisis.)
