Charlie's Angels"Shear Genius" mini-cap: Good morning, AngelsI am conflicted about this week's Shear Genius drinking game. On one hand I want to tell you to take a drink every time Nekisa makes an excuse, or acts like a brat, or just generally pisses you off. But on the other hand, it's the Charlie's Angels challenge, and I don't want you to get blasted before the pictures of Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson and Farah Fawcett start flashing up on your screen. Actually, here you go:
Now you can drink away. You're going to need it. Jaclyn Smith welcomes the seven remaining stylists to the Shear Genius salon, and congratulates Paulo because his style has made it to the Allure Wall of Fame. Paulo manages to not air hump like he did last week when he won. Instead he smiles graciously and says, "It's about time!"
This morning's shortcut challenge is to dye hair all the colors of the rainbow — "vibrant, over-the-top color," says Jaclyn. I have a bad feeling about this. … continue reading Submitted on August 4, 2008 at 10:00 am The Minisode Network: ADD TVJust in time for the weekend, the fine folks at Gay List Daily alerted us to a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon: The Minisode Network.
Minisodes, as you probably deduced from the promo screen, are abbreviated episodes of some of the best cheesy shows ever. And the site is more than entertaining — it's enlightening. Say, for example, that you're in deep meditation and you have a vision of angels.
Soon, that lofty vision devolves into thoughts of angels in chains, and you wish you could remember more about that "Angels in Chains" episode of Charlie's Angels. So, you click over to the Minisode Network, and there it is: In six minutes, you see Kelly, Sabrina and Jill get hosed down, meet a very young Kim Basinger and bounce through a meadow in chains. Life is good. … continue reading Submitted on April 18, 2008 at 3:00 pm "Prison Break" spin-off puts women behind barsIf you're anything like me, you have little interest in watching boys run around trying to escape from other boys and the prisons they build. That's not to say I don't like Prison Break. It's not horrible, but there's just way too much testosterone. Plus, the show is starting to look a little bit like a lost puppy during this third season. The drooping ratings and recycled story lines do not, however, dampen my enthusiasm for the the recent news that the folks in charge of Prison Break are planning a spin-off. Now, normally I'm not a big spin-off girl, unless you're talking Star Trek. But, in this case, I think I'll make an exception. Why? Because this spin-off is all about the girls. You heard me correctly. Think of your love for the Charlie's Angels "women in prison" episode.
Now think of your love for Bad Girls.
Now imagine something a lot less campy than Sabrina and the gang and more American than Nikki and Helen. That's what Fox is cooking up for its Prison Break spin-off. Attention shoppers! Your women-in-prison fantasies are now available on aisle 6. … continue reading Submitted on October 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm TV time trips: From a one-hour "Office" to a five-minute "Angels"As the old saw goes, less is more. Or maybe more is more. As usual, it depends whom you ask — in this case, NBC or Sony. NBC is considering making The Office a one-hour show, while Sony is planning to offer five-minute versions of shows like Charlie's Angels and Starsky and Hutch.
I feel very conflicted about NBC's one-hour Office idea. I often feel slightly dissatisfied at the end of an episode of The Office; I definitely want more. But I worry that twice as much time will make the writers sloppy. Sometimes the episodes become twisted little parables — if you were to untwist them to make them stretch into an hour, wouldn't they lose something? … continue reading Submitted on May 3, 2007 at 10:33 am And then there's Maude (as well as Sabrina)by scribegrrrl The first season of Maude was released on DVD this week. Talk about long overdue. Is there a smarter, funnier, smarter (yes, I said that twice) show in all of television history? Not really. Especially not in sitcom-land. Here's a snippet from LA Weekly that handily (if unedited-ly) sums up Maude's brilliance:
It just doesn't get better than Bea Arthur and Adrienne Barbeau. Funny is sexy, and, um, Barbeau-y is sexy. On a sort-of-related note (in the sense that all brilliant TV is, arguably, related), episodes of Charlie's Angels are now available on iTunes. Or so says Variety, anyway -- when I checked the iTunes store just now, I found nothing. But I've never been much of a sleuth -- I'm sure Charlie never would have hired me. I would assume that 6 out of 10 lesbians prefer Sabrina, but maybe I'm wrong: Who's your favorite Angel? Sabrina (Kate Jackson), Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) or Jill (Farrah Fawcett)? Oh, or Kris (Cheryl Ladd) or Tiffany (Shelley Hack)? Submitted on March 23, 2007 at 10:20 am |
