Tricia HelferTricia Helfer goes from Cylon to shrinkIf we can find the least bit of good news with the end in sight for Battlestar Galactica, it comes from the prospect of seeing the lovely ladies of BSG in other roles.
As Dorothy Snarker recently told us, Katee Sackhoff, AKA Starbuck, is set to tuck in with Sean on Nip/Tuck. Now comes word that Tricia Helfer, AKA Six, will co-star in a new Fox pilot, Inseparable.
Inseparable, written and produced by ex-Hardy Boy Shaun Cassidy, stars Lloyd Owen as a semi-paralyzed forensic psychiatrist who, in a Jekyll/Hyde twist, has an alter ego who’s a master criminal. Cassidy also created Invasion, the 2005 ABC series about weirdness in the wake of a Florida hurricane. I quite liked the show and was bummed that it ended before we found out what was really going on. I hope Inseparable proves equally intriguing. … continue reading Submitted on June 30, 2008 at 12:00 pm Five observations about "Battlestar Galactica"Last week's Battlestar Galactica episode, "Faith," rocked the house. This whole season, though, has been incredible, delving into complex, challenging issues such as religion, mortality and politics. This is not TV lite, therefore I rarely watch it on Friday nights at 10 p.m., since by then my brain is fried from the previous week's work and I can't concentrate with the appropriate amount of attention. So, after watching "Faith" on DVR delay, I have a few observations to share with you about this most recent episode of BSG. (Please note: No attempt at synopsis has been made; for a synopsis, go here. This post is pure critique and conjecture.) 1. Starbuck has a fan base in the BSG world, too. When Jean Barolay (Alisen Down) volunteered to go with Starbuck, Anders and Athena to the Cylon base ship to talk to the Hybrid, Starbuck told her she wasn't looking for volunteers. Jean countered that yes, Starbuck had asked for volunteers back on the Galactica, that Starbuck had been a super-hot badass leader since forever, and Jean would like nothing less than to be ordered around by Kara "Lesbian Icon" Thrace. (OK, maybe I'm paraphrasing a little, but didn't Jean seem to have a little crush on Starbuck? Too bad that crush got her killed.) Jean Barolay (Alisen Down) in Episode 3.11, "Rapture" 2. Six kisses Six. After the Six who accidentally killed Jean Barolay was shot by Natalie, she confessed to Natalie that she had not been able to deal with the trauma of being killed by Jean on New Caprica. Natalie called her "sister" and kissed her before she died. I saw this as a grand, poetic statement of blood calling to blood, as well as a reflection of the fact that each Cylon model is so closely linked — closer than family, even — to the others of their model. Here's hoping most folks didn't see it as gratuitous girl-on-girl action starring hottie Tricia Helfer in a fantasy twin lesbians scenario. … continue reading Submitted on May 14, 2008 at 10:00 am Yet another opportunity to vote for Tina FeyLast year, RedEye's "Best Character on TV Tourney" crowned Kara "Starbuck" Thrace the ultimate victor.
The first round of voting for this year's Tourney has just opened, but unfortunately they've decided to make last year's winners ineligible, so The tourney is divided into four regions: the George Costanza Region, the Carmela Soprano Region, the Smoking Man Region, and the Buffy the Vampire Slayer region. Guess where our favorite ladies are to be found? (Well, not in the George Costanza Region.) In the Smoking Man Region, we've got Battlestar Galactica's Number Six (Tricia Helfer) vs. The Shield's Det. Shane Vendrell (Walter Goggins).
Well, Six is a super-powerful Cylon with the ability to seduce and manipulate pretty much anybody she wants — plus she plays for our team (half the time). Det. Vendrell is ... who is he? My money's on Six. … continue reading Submitted on May 7, 2008 at 10:00 am Starbuck, we missed yaIf you've been anywhere online lately, you have probably encountered what seem like unending commercials and promotions for tonight's premiere of Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica. I don't blame the show's producers for the overkill — the show is critically acclaimed and has a ravenous fan base, but has never been a huge ratings blockbuster. Hopefully people who tune in tonight after the barrage of advertising won't be completely confused by what has happened in the previous three seasons of BSG and will return for more. Anyway, I digress. I could deliver my theories about what might happen this season, but thelinster already did that on Monday. So instead, I'll just give you some eye candy to whet your appetite. First up are some stills from tonight's episode, "He That Believeth in Me." They've been out for a couple of weeks, but they may still be new to you:
Submitted on April 4, 2008 at 4:00 pm “Battlestar Galactica” Season 4: how can it end?You can always count on AfterEllen.com to keep you informed about Battlestar Galactica , especially now that the last season is at hand (April 4 at 10 p.m. EST on Sci Fi). Can I get an “oh, frak?” You also can count on Malinda to share new BSG promotional photos when she finds them. If the women of Galactica don't make you squirm, get thee to the doctor.
Speculation about how the series will end is in high gear, even though we may not see the final 10 episodes until 2009. In an interview with Sci Fi Wire last week, Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama) said the most appropriate finale for such an innovative show is for the whole crew to die. “If it's true to form, no one makes it,” he said. This Season 4 poster does little to dispel that notion.
And I may be reading too much into it, but this trailer certainly seems apocalyptic. … continue readingSubmitted on March 31, 2008 at 4:45 am "Battlestar Galactica" TV alert and newsAre you looking forward to the return of Battlestar Galactica? If so, you might want to set your DVR for The Late Show With David Letterman tonight. Ten BSG stars will read the Top Ten list. Yes, that includes Katee Sackhoff, Mary McDonnell, Grace Park, Tricia Helfer and Lucy Lawless.
And if that's not enough to tide you over, there are BSG articles everywhere this week: 1. The Los Angeles Times previews the season in an article called "Battlestar Galactica gears up for a fight to the finish." It includes this choice quote:
2. The Chicago Tribune blog The Watcher has a season preview too, and notes that Joss Whedon wanted to direct a BSG episode but is too busy with Welcome to the Dollhouse. Bummer. … continue reading Submitted on March 19, 2008 at 2:22 pm Only 43 days until Starbuck's returnToday NBC released a slew of brand-new promo photos for Season 4 (the last! sob!) of Battlestar Galactica, which premieres on Friday, April 4, at 10 p.m. ET on Sci Fi. Here's some eye candy for you: Katee Sackhoff as Starbuck Lucy Lawless as D'Anna Biers Submitted on February 21, 2008 at 1:48 pm I scream, you scream, we all scream for the ladies of the Scream AwardsTheoretically, the Spike TV Scream Awards should totally not be my thing. First, it’s on Spike TV, the channel with the subtle tagline “Get More Action” and programming aimed at the young adult male market. You know, the polar opposite of Lifetime Television for Women. Second, it’s an award show dedicated to horror, sci-fi and fantasy. While I enjoy a lot of sci-fi and fantasy, I’ve never been a big horror fan. I can’t help it; I scare easily. And finally, I can’t take any event seriously that asks Paris Hilton to appear. But then I heard Lena Headey would also be there, and suddenly all that other stuff didn’t seem to matter that much. Oh, Lena. Even your crazy choice
of potato-sack couture could not deter my devotion. Now I’m going
to have to tape the telecast and fast-forward to your parts. Or, better
yet, wait until some similarly The Scream Awards were held last Friday in Los Angeles, and the broadcast airs at 10:00 tonight on Spike. And for those of you with a somewhat less obsessive view of lovely Lena, there are some other reasons to watch. Like, say, Rosario Dawson’s tongue: … continue reading Submitted on October 23, 2007 at 6:09 pm "Battlestar Galactica" gets even sexierTake note, Battlestar Galactica fans: More lesbian action is on the schedule for Sci Fi's critically acclaimed series. Today, SyFy Portal reports some new spoilers about the BSG TV movie set to air this November. As has been widely leaked previously, the movie, titled Razor, will flash back to the Battlestar Pegasus, last seen in the Season 2 episodes "Pegasus" and the two-part "Resurrection Ship." The Battlestar Pegasus was commanded by the very commanding Admiral Helena Cain, played by Michelle Forbes.
If she looks familiar, it's because Forbes has been all over your TV. She played Ensign Ro Laren on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Dr. Julianna Cox on Homicide: Life on the Street, Lynne Kresge on Season 2 of 24, and most recently, Samantha Brinker on Prison Break. But it's BSG where I learned that she's born to play a badass. (More on Admiral Cain and those spoilers after the jump.) … continue reading [Spoilers ahead!] Submitted on June 19, 2007 at 12:00 pm Coming this fall to a TV near you (maybe): bionic women, hot nurses and Lena HeadeyNext week, the networks are expected to announce their fall lineups to advertisers at the annual upfronts, and leading up to the upfronts is the inevitable speculation about which pilots are going to make it into prime time. I have no idea which pilots will be picked up, but I can tell you this much: The outlook is poor for lesbians and bisexual women. More on that later, but first, there are a number of pilots that look like they'll include quite interesting women as lead characters. Here are the ones that give me the most lesbianish vibe: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Fox) — Word is the Fox execs are very happy with this pilot that follows Sarah Connor and her son John from the Terminator movies as she fights to save the world from those evil machines. Even better? Sarah Connor is played by Lena Headey of Imagine Me & You, and Summer Glau (from Joss Whedon's Firefly) plays the role of Cameron, a fellow student at 15-year-old John's high school. The buzz says this is one pilot that will surely be picked up for a series. Here's Headey with Thomas Dekker, who plays John: Submitted on May 7, 2007 at 2:39 pm Tricia Helfer does double sci-fi dutyTVGuide.com is reporting that Tricia Helfer, aka cylon Six on Battlestar Galactica, has joined the cast of the new Fox pilot Them. The creator of BSG (and the upcoming reinvented Bionic Woman NBC series), David Eick, is helming Them, which is a good indicator of the high quality product we can probably expect. Them is reportedly about "sleeper cells of extraterrestrial terrorists" and is based on the graphic novel Six. According to filmfodder.com, in Them aliens take human form, but then experience human emotions as "a kind of drug." Director Jonathon. Mostow is quoted as saying, "On a surface level, it's a really cool science fiction thriller. But underneath, it's a very provocative show that's really going to explore what it means to be human, to be a person." Shallow side note: TVGuide.com is also reporting that BSG's peroxide blonde will be a brunette on Them. As far as I'm concerned, the only way this show could get any better is if they announce that Katee Sackhoff (aka Starbuck on BSG) is also joining the cast. As Helfer's on-screen lover. Holy frack!
