Sandra Bullock

2008 Hot 100 Preview: SANDRA BULLOCK

A master of both the romantic comedy and the dramatic thriller, Sandra Bullock has won our hearts since she became a mainstream movie siren in 1994's Speed. The roles kept coming in, and it was impossible to miss Sandra as she starred in A Time To Kill, The Net, Miss Congeniality, Crash, and The Lake House (and still, these are only a select few.)

Perhaps Sandra is so hot because she brings a realness to every character she plays – a likable quality because she's so likable in press junkets and interviews, and when her husband totally screws her over in Hope Floats by leaving her for her BFF played by Rosanna Arquette. Or maybe it's that she's been able to sustain a career of mostly watchable movies while staying out of the paparazzi's harsh glare, keeping her life with her husband, Jesse James, to herself. … continue reading

Actors we'll watch in (almost) anything

The good folks at EW.com recently released a list of the "50 Actors We'd Watch in Anything" in two parts. As usual for this type of thing, the list was dominated by men — there were only 18 women listed. But I do have to give them kudos for selecting stellar actors.

Kate Winslet, Rosario Dawson, Joan Cusack and Allison Janney

I actually agreed with the majority of the list. And — wait for it — they even included an out lesbian in Cherry Jones!

Jones with partner Sarah Paulson

Admittedly, I don't get to the movies as often as I'd like. I think I have only actually gotten to the theaters once in the past month. So it might be a stretch to say I'd watch these ladies in "anything." I like to think I have standards in some area of my life. I would prefer to call the list "50 Actors That Would Allow Us to Not Hate Ourselves for Paying $9 to See This Crappy Movie." … continue reading

A-listers' paychecks versus profit and other reminders that you're poor

Think you're underpaid? Think the guy three cubicles down from you is overpaid? Well, take heart. Your pay scale cannot be as wonky and egregious as that of the Hollywood elite. Forbes magazine did some complex calculations based on some superstars' last three films (don't ask me to explain the equation; I'm a writer and therefore allergic to math). They found that some were paid appropriately based on their rate of return, and others were vastly overpaid. Now, I may not be good at math, but duh.

The high and low ends of the scale belonged to male stars. Matt Damon had the best pay-to-profit ratio; for every $1 he earned, his films grossed $29. The worst? Russell Crowe — for each $1 he made, his films made $5. Talk about your fuzzy math. Of course, I'm most interested to see how the female A-listers fared. … continue reading

A&E orders up "Danny Fricke"

Cable network A&E has signed on to develop a new pilot called Danny Fricke. The show centers on a female homicide detective in Los Angeles. The deal hinges on the casting of the pilot, specifically the lead. A&E executives want her to be "sexy, smart and tough, and believable as a detective." Since Mariska Hargitay already has a job, I figured it couldn't hurt to offer the folks over at A&E a few helpful suggestions. Of course, I have a couple of criteria of my own to add. In order to be believable as a homicide cop, she can't be 20 years old, and she can't be a size zero. In no particular order, here are my suggestions. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts.

5. Rose Rollins

She plays a tough MP on The L Word, so a Los Angeles homicide cop isn't too much of a stretch. Plus, she looks like she could actually arrest someone. She can arrest me anytime she wants.

4. Demi Moore

She wore a gun and a badge in Mr. Brooks and made us believe she was a Navy Seal in G.I. Jane. Throw in a few Charlie's Angels–inspired action sequences and I'm sold. … continue reading

No wonder I'm often disappointed in Hollywood

Some of you may have heard of "development hell." This is the pit of red tape and phone tag that happens when a movie becomes mired, seemingly endlessly, in the development stage. A film can have a big-name director and A-list stars attached to it for years before it extricates itself from this Hollywood quagmire. This week, in 20 Movies Not Coming Soon to a Theater Near You, Premiere.com lists 20 films they'd like to see "dug out of development hell and brought to a multiplex near you."

I'm not sure what to think of Premiere.com, because of the 20 flicks they listed, about three of them had women in them. Personally, I'm glad most of these movies haven't made it out of development hell. I'd like Hollywood to attempt (I know it's hard for them, but come on) to make more movies that tell stories of interest to the majority of the population — not teenage guys.

Nonetheless, here are the lesbianish highlights from the list:

The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay: Based on Michael Chabon's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about two immigrant cousins who create a comic book, the film was set to star Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire.

Gossip roundup: Katie flirts, Sandra restrains, Neve weds

1. When I first heard that Katie Holmes was flirting with someone on the set of Mad Money, my mind went right to Diane Keaton. Adam who?

Oh, whoops. That photo makes them look waaaaaay too May-December. Never mind. Anyway, don't taint Mad Money for me, Katie: I've been looking forward to seeing Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah on the screen together. Hotness!

2. Sandra Bullock has filed for a restraining order against the woman who was arrested for attempting to run over Bullock's husband. I swear I thought the car was in neutral, Sandra! And when will you see that we're meant to be together?! You can't fight destiny!

3. Neve Campbell is getting married.

Sandra Bullock has a premonition ... of box office disaster?

Today Sandra Bullock's new movie, Premonition, about a wife who has premonitions about the death of her husband, opens in theaters nationwide. Critics aren't exactly loving the film, but they are loving Ms. Bullock. Here she is in a still from the film, looking all premonitiony (click "read more" at the bottom to see more pretty pics):
