Glamour magazine awards its women of the year

Glamour magazine held its annual Women of the Year awards in London last night. From the winners and attendees, it's fair to say that the Brits are still ahead of the game in who they consider the top lady achievers. I'd be surprised to see several of the winners included on any American list.

Some of the winners include:

Beth Ditto – International Musician

Beth Ditto and the naked truth

Vocalist for The Gossip and out lesbian Beth Ditto is causing a stir again. This time it's for her audacious photo shoot and article for British music mag NME. The singer appears nude on the cover, and inside of the magazine expounds on a variety of topics.

On new pal model Kate Moss and body image: "Kate is amazing. I spent one night talking to her and she just said the most amazing things about bodies. At first I didn't think I was going to like her, but she just turned up to one of our shows and said, 'Do you know what I hate Beth ? I hate it when people tell my big girlfriends, 'You have a beautiful face...' I mean, that's a really radical concept".

"You can't hate a person for dieting, and you can't blame a person for feeling sh*t about themselves. You have to blame the machine that feeds it, the thing that makes people feel like that. There are lots of things that are part of that machine, and it's too easy to lay the blame at the feet of women - men don't know what it feels like to be a woman and be expected to look a particular way all the time. I had those conversations with Kate, and Kate agreed with me about it. She's a smart person."

Beth Ditto Sizes Up Topshop

According to British music rag NME, The Gossip's front woman Beth Ditto wants skimpy clothing store Topshop to make plus-size clothing, and she's even willing to design the line herself.

Topshop (which I'm told is the British equivalent of Forever 21 in terms of producing inexpensive hoochie-wear) recently invited the band to give several in-store performances. But Ditto declined on principal, telling BBC 6 Music: "I don't think it's fair to put my face somewhere where they would never let me in there to wear their clothes. I want the respect that Kate Moss gets. If they want our music they've got to actually do something to earn it. I can get money anywhere, I don't need your money unless you're going to do it my way."

She added, "Give me the job. I want to design, I want you to make clothes for big girls, big boys, I want you to make big sizes."
