Homophonic: Deepa Soul

Our brother site AfterElton.com has a new weekly video blog that focuses on the world of out gay musicians, and in their first episode, Alex and Lee delve into the world of out singer Deepa Soul.

The woman behind the hit dance singles like "Nowhere Love" and "As I Am" discusses her journey from not-so-humble beginnings as a go-go dancer in San Francisco to her epic collaborations with Junior Vasquez. She even performs a track from her upcoming 3-disc release for the boys.

Come With Me If You Want To Live: "Work Out" 3.3

Jenn's best friend Troy joins her and Dee in reviewing this episode of Work Out, which features more lesbian drama on a boat.

Jenn and Dee also answer viewer questions, including whether they liked high school, if they're out to their parents, their religious views, and what they think of labels.

And in case you forgot that Jenn and Dee (and Troy) are band geeks at heart, they do some marching band trash-talk at the end of the episode, and Jenn and Dee get into a fight over whose musical instrument is more important.

Angela Bassett is set to scrub into the "ER"

She’s already been a private dancer, now Angela Bassett will be in private practice. OK, fine, it’s more like general practice. The Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress will join the fifteenth and final season of ER in the fall.

The move marks a transition for the 49-year-old actress from the big to the small screen. TV has previously been the domain of Angela’s husband, Courtney B. Vance, a veteran of both Law & Order: Criminal Intent and State of Mind.

Angela will play an attending physician who is returning to Chicago after working the past few years in Indonesia tsunami relief. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Her arrival in the second episode next season promises to shake County General's ER to the core.”

Unlike The Linster, I haven’t been a regular ER patient watcher for quite a while now. In fact, Maura Tierney and Goran Visnjic are the only regulars I remember from back when I used to tune in at the end of my Thursday night Must-See TV block. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the current cast – particularly Linda Cardellini and Parminder Nagra. But I guess there are just so many times you can see someone scream “STAT!” over a crash cart. … continue reading

Come With Me If You Want To Live: "Work Out" 3.2

Jenn and Dee call out Jackie for kissing on her employees, Rebecca for trying on bikinis, and Briana for not knowing her girlfriend was going on a lesbian cruise.

They also go on tangents about piercings, Maeve Quinlan in a white dress, and the term "the children" (this week's gay slang).

The "Allure" of the female form

Angie Harmon is so modest that she won't get pictures developed of her and her husband skinny-dipping – she doesn't want the photo lab folks to see them.

Yet, Harmon is one of five gorgeous women who posed nude for the May issue of Allure, due to hit the stands this week. I, for one, find no reason to object to such inconsistency of thought.

The annual “Look Better Naked” issue of Allure celebrates the various shapes and sizes of the female body. (Why can't we get a national holiday for that?) And the magazine actually seems to get the concept right. Harmon certainly is not chunky, but she's not anorexic, either. The same is true of Wilhelmina's sister, Gabrielle Union. … continue reading

Rudy from "The Cosby Show" is all grown up

Keshia Knight Pulliam was 5 when she read for the part of Rudy Huxtable on The Cosby Show. At her audition, she kept looking away from the director, who finally asked her what she was looking at. "That's me," she said, pointing at the monitor. "How can you make me on the TV?"

Aw. That's the Keshia I want to remember. Little Rudy — smart as a whip and cute as a bug — or a goldfish.

Sure, I know that the actor and her character are two different people. I know that it's been over 15 years since The Cosby Show's original run. I know Pulliam turned 29 a few weeks ago. When I see pictures like this, I can deal with her growing up. You can still see a little of Rudy in her, can't you? … continue reading
