It's hardly a news flash that misogyny is as American as, well, American Pie. Still, it's refreshing to stumble across a rant from a like-minded film fan to reassure myself that I'm not the only one who didn't find Knocked Up charming and funny. Or cry a little when Jack Black hooked up with Kate Winslet in The Holiday. Or, heaven forbid, see myself on-screen in Renée Zellweger's boy-crazy, insecure Bridget Jones.

And so I bring you highlights from a piece over at Radaronline.com, aptly entitled “No Country for Fat Chicks,” a snarky roundup of some of the most misogynist movies of the past decade. I'm just listing the past two years here, but here's the rest of the article for your entertainment.

So Shoot 'Em Up was No. 6 at the box office with disappointing earnings. At least their website is spooftastic. Sign me up for the ultra-light kiddie riot shield — and then sign me on as Monica Bellucci's bodyguard.

Did anybody make it to the theaters for this one? Was it "a fun, if messy, compilation of the most absurd action scenes ever put on celluloid?" Or "a one-dimensional cinematic treat best savored with one's brain on pause?" If you've seen it, share — in those Rotten Tomato reviews, it's hard to tell the laurels from the thorns!

I was actually sort of excited about Shoot 'Em Up, which is set to open this Friday. The title sounds a little bloody for my usual taste, but I sometimes do like a good, brainless action flick. Oh, and then there's this:

Here's the movie's plot, such as it is: Clive Owen stars as "a mysterious loner who teams up with an unlikely ally to protect a newborn baby" from villains who hunt them "throughout the bowels of the city." (Uh, wait a minute. This is sounding awfully familiar.) And the trailer is fun, at least from the action movie standpoint.
