Cat CoraYou Can't Take Them Anywhere! The 2008 HRC GalaBridget McManus and I recently stormed the red carpet at the annual HRC gala in Los Angeles where we spoke to some very lovely people. Legendary friend-of-the-gays Judith Light humbled us with her thoughtful and dignified responses to our ridiculous questions. Then we caught up with Andrea Meyerson, being honored that night with the Local Hero Award for founding the lesbian social network “Women on a Roll." She introduced us to some of her friends, distracted us with a jaw-dropping gown, and once again confirmed my assertion that she is the lesbian Goldie Hawn. We also chatted up some of our favorite reality tv gay boys, Christian Siriano (Project Runway) and Jesse Brune (Work Out). Christian told us all about the perks of his new found fame (free fast food!) and gave Bridget some very loving and gentle feedback about her outfit. (If you hear someone calling her a "hot mess," it was me, not Christian.) Jesse Brune told us all about being raised by lesbians (we are only slightly more ferocious than wolves) and how the gay ladies in his life have taught him the joys of processing. We love him. Finally, after some excruciating "will she or won't she talk to us" drama, Iron Chef America's openly gay chef Cat Cora — honored that night with the Hero for Visibility Award — talked to us about her favorite spices, what superhero powers she'd most like to possess, and teased us with a description of the hot new chef uniforms we'll be seeing this season on ICA.
She even gave a little shout out to AE. Soon after, I proposed to her and we were escorted off the property. … continue reading Submitted on March 21, 2008 at 2:28 pm A health study that may give you pawsCats are better than dogs.
OK, I'm not really talking about Catwoman. But I wanted to deflect the ire of dog-lovin' lesbians long enough to let me make a point. And I do have one.
Yes, another gratuitous picture. You're welcome. Personally, I love dogs and cats equally. I have cats because, well, I'm lazy. But a recent University of Minnesota study suggests that people with cats are less likely to die of cardiovascular disease than people without cats. Dog owners had the same rate of stroke and heart attack as non-owners. Of course, I already knew that my cats help reduce stress, especially when I'm working at home. I mean, this is what I see when I'm blogging.
One theory about the results has to do with the nature of cats — they are lap animals that want to be petted. When the owner pets the cat, down goes the stress. I would have to balance that with another aspect of the feline nature: a fondness for attacking toes when the owner is asleep. And the fact that a kitty's favorite place to sleep is on whatever part of the bed is highest at a given moment and, if its position is threatened, it will hang on with extended claws. In other words, sex can be, well, a pain in the butt. Literally. (This is, unfortunately, not just theory.) Still, we love our kitties. Witness the popularity of Lolcats. … continue reading Submitted on March 17, 2008 at 7:03 pm Chefs who guarantee a happy ThanksgivingThanksgiving is what you would call a strictly North American holiday. Now, before we get into any philosophical debates about the origins of the upcoming version here in the United States, let me just say this. Yes. Yes. I agree. No. Yes. There, that should take care of that. Moving on, I want to talk about food. More specifically, I want to talk about which women I would love to have in my kitchen helping to prepare Thanksgiving dinner for family and friends. I chose to limit myself to real-life chefs, rather than including some of my favorite fictional ones. I have no reason for that, really, except that I can only think of two fictional chefs I'd really love to have over to cook dinner. One isn't even a woman. He's a Swedish Muppet. The other once wooed my favorite fictional tennis player.
I love to cook. At times, I even consider myself to be rather good at it. My better half seems to enjoy the experiments I put on the table in front of her, or at least that's what she tells me. I tend to use recipes as "suggestions" rather than mandates. Such a cooking style has resulted in several happy accidents, as well as a few disasters. But the process is always fun. So, now that my status as a wannabe Iron Chef has been revealed, here are the real ladies I'd love to have slaving over my hot stove. … continue reading Submitted on November 16, 2007 at 12:34 pm |
