Women's Murder Club"Women's Murder Club": not dead yetA few days ago, things looked pretty bleak for Women's Murder Club.
In fact, on Thursday the crew started striking the set, according to Ask Ausiello. But yesterday, ABC announced that the drama has a new showrunner, Robert Nathan, and Murder Club could be back on the air by April. Come on back, ladies.
The plan is to shoot three new episodes this season — and ratings for those episodes will determine whether we'll have a second season of Women's Murder Club. In other words, if you like it, watch it. If you haven't watched it, here are four good reasons to start. … continue reading Submitted on February 25, 2008 at 2:00 pm "Little Women": Archetypes for every storyI sometimes think back to the summer before my freshman year of high school. My very Catholic school gave us a booklist to read, and as a result of the imposed summer homework (Oh, no! Would all of high school be like this?), I was introduced to the four sisters March. Yes, the booklist included Louisa May Alcott's Little Women.
Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy found their way into my heart that summer of ’65. As I sat out on Mastic Beach in Long Island at the home of one of my cousins, I was transported back to the Civil War and the lives of those four girls. Balmy winds and beach sand under my feet were no match for Southern hospitality, adventurous escapades, plays, balls and the tears shed at the many sad moments in the book. I immediately fell in love with Jo and wished she could hold me in her arms as she did her dear sister Beth. Little did I know that was a portent of my future! As I grew up and enjoyed different shows on TV, I came to recognize a pattern. Certain shows resonated with me in a way that was so familiar. You know these shows: The Facts of Life, Golden Girls, Designing Women. What was it, I asked myself, that connects all of these shows? And then one day, it came to me. The characters on these shows reflect the attributes of the characters in Little Women. … continue reading Submitted on January 31, 2008 at 10:02 am SHE MADE ME WATCH THIS! December 7, 2007We're back in our regular groove this week, bringing you fun television highlights (and clips!) from the last few weeks from shows like 30 Rock, Blood Ties, and Moonlight.
And don't think we ignored Sarah Shahi's lesbian kiss on Life! We've bucketed this week's shows into categories in our vlog. Can you guess which category applies to which show, before you watch?
I'll give you one hint: Women's Murder Club gets "Most Improved" — we tell you why in the vlog, and show you a scene involving a lesbian character in a recent episode. … continue reading Submitted on December 7, 2007 at 5:53 pm Lesbian hair makes a comeback (hey, stop snickering)Ahhh, lesbian hair. That much-maligned subject of punch lines everywhere. Historically, gay women’s hairstyles haven’t always had the best reputation. And I’m not even going to mention the dreaded M-word. While I have no problem with business in the front, party in the back when it comes to your personal life, I refuse to accept it on your head. But I believe we’ve turned a corner here in the hair club for women. Why else would so many stars be rocking the lesbian hair of late?
I’m not just talking seventh-grade-gym-teacher hair either. I speak of all the chic, often cropped cuts the ladies of TV and film have been sporting everywhere. It’s gotten to the point that even seemingly straight stars have started suffering from lesbian twin syndrome. I’m dying for Women’s Murder Club and Bionic Woman to do a crossover episode so these two can scream: “Lesbian Twins activate! Form of — haircut!”
So with that, let’s examine, and of course rate, the trend of lesbian locks. … continue reading Submitted on November 21, 2007 at 12:31 pm Who Thought THAT Was a Good Idea? Episode 1In the great tradition of Maude and CSI: Miami (hopefully not of Joey and Private Practice), Lori and I are doing a video blog spin-off of She Made Me Watch This called Who Thought That Was a Good Idea? Why? I blame Michelle Rodriguez. And Fox. And the writers on Women's Murder Club and Degrassi.
And even Katherine Heigl, God love her.
They've finally pushed us over the edge and driven us to dedicate a whole vlog to the week's most ridiculous, unbelievable, annoying, or just plain stupid moves made by celebrities, TV writers, movie directors, studio execs, actors, and other entertainment folks. In our opinion, anyway. In our first episode of the new vlog, we count down the week's 5 dumbest news items — next week it might be a few more, or a few less. Depends on how dumb the week is. See if you can guess where Degrassi's latest episode fell on the list this week... … continue reading Submitted on October 15, 2007 at 12:04 pm TV alerts: "Women's Murder Club," "The Search for the Next Elvira"The new ABC crime procedural Women's Murder Club debuts tonight.
Everyone's talking about Angie Harmon, but I'm more interested in Laura Harris (Dead Like Me).
And I'm also more interested in Elvira, who graces (haunts? sorry) Fox Reality tomorrow night (at midnight, natch) in The Search for the Next Elvira. … continue reading Submitted on October 12, 2007 at 11:15 am She Made Me Watch This! TV ROUNDUP: "Damages", "Saving Grace", "The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "Cashmere Mafia" and moreIn the second segment of this week's video blog, we review the premiere episodes of Damages (FX) and Saving Grace (TNT); the finale of Standoff (Fox); and the pilot episodes for The Sarah Connor Chronicles (ABC), Cashmere Mafia (ABC), and Women's Murder Club (ABC). Don't worry, no spoilers, just our general review of the pilots, and where they land on the BDS (Bunny Designation Scale). Submitted on July 29, 2007 at 3:15 am She Made Me Watch This: Mingling with the stars at ABC's Summer Press Tour PartyThe first segment of our video blog this week is a rundown of the glitzy ABC Summer Press Tour Party Lori and I attended Thursday night, in which we eavesdropped (unsuccessfully) on Miranda Otto, admired Dana Delany's power walk, met Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, had a run-in with Anne Heche's publicist, and chatted with Bonnie Somerville. Among other things. Before we get to the video, here are a few photos from the party: Dana Delany and Lucy Liu
Bonnie Somerville and Miranda Otto Submitted on July 28, 2007 at 5:16 am Blogging the TCA, Part 2: "Women's Murder Club" aka "The Angie Harmon Show"This is a live blog from the bi-annual Television Critics Association conference. See more TCA live blog posts here. It's time for the panel on Women's Murder Club, a drama based on the novels by James Patterson about a homicide detective, a medical examiner, a newspaper reporter and a young assistant district attorney who work together to solve homicide investigations. Or as I like to call it, The Angie Harmon Show. You'll see why in a moment.
The cast, creator, writers and director file onto the stage and take their seats, with Angie Harmon perched in the center like the crown jewel. She looks good, as usual- too thin, but great outfit: white pants with a black sleeveless top and her black hair pulled back into a ponytail. Her co-hosts, Aubrey Darling, Laura Harris, and Paula Newsome, look happy and comfortable, James Patterson is patched in via a video screen, and Joe Simpson (aka father of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson) sits on the far right as an executive producer (huh?).
But I'm wondering, where is Elizabeth Ho, the show's Asian American character? She's in some of the cast photos, but she's not part of the core foursome, so apparently she doesn't rate an appearance. [Wednesday night update: an ABC publicist told me that Ho's character has been dropped from the show. Damn. One less Asian American woman on TV next season.] There are two female writers on the panel, Sarah Fain and Elizabeth Craft, but I can't tell which is which (even though they look completely different) because I was checking my email when they introduced everyone. So I'm just going to attribute whatever either of them say to "SarahBeth." … continue reading Submitted on July 25, 2007 at 5:53 pm |
