Isabella RosselliniThe 2008 Sundance Film Festival lineup, or 13 reasons to visit Utah in JanuaryI have a really long to-do list in a notebook somewhere. I call it my things-to-do-before-I-croak list. It includes stuff like places I want to see, books I want to read and things I'd like to accomplish. Thanks to AfterEllen.com, I can sort of cross off one of those items. No. 67: Get published. Sure, the Internet wasn't what I had in mind when I added that particular item to my list, but it counts in my world. Another thing on my to-do list is attend the Sundance Film Festival. If I could manage to squeeze in the time off and barter my way to Utah, I'd make 2008 the year to get that one crossed off the list. The complete list of films screening at next year's festival was released over the course of the past couple of weeks. Not only do some of the films sound intriguing, but the list of who's in those films should make the red carpet a true treat. In last week's Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. we told you about one reason to head for the Utah mountains, a reason named Saffron Burrows. Here are a few more reasons to make the trek.
One of the people I would expect to see strutting about town is Lena Headey. Not only would I love to drool over her in person, but I'd also like to see the movie she's in that's screening at Park City at Midnight. It's called The Broken and tells the tale of a woman who sees herself drive by in her own car while on a busy London street. She follows the mystery double into "a living nightmare." Lena Headey in what sounds like an eerie psychological thriller? Count me in. … continue reading Submitted on December 14, 2007 at 9:40 am Smell this: Celebrities spread their scentsBritney Spears, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Paula Abdul … do you really want to smell like these people? Me, not so much, since I can honestly say I’ve never wanted to smell like a nervous breakdown, jail, desperation or crazy. But, apparently, a lot of people do want to dab on a little eau de paparazzi princess, since new star scents keep popping up everywhere. Now, I’m not really a perfume fan, period. The first thing I do when I open one of those big, glossy magazines is rip out all the smelly samples. And of course, using celebrities to hawk fancy fragrances is nothing new either. I’ve always admired those elegant Trésor ads featuring Isabella Rosellini and now Kate Winslet. But having stars sell their own signature scents, well that’s a horse of a different color. … continue reading Submitted on August 15, 2007 at 12:12 pm Kate Winslet: International TrésorKate Winslet is the new face of Trésor, Lancôme’s signature fragrance line. And, my, what a lovely face it is (AfterEllen.com Hottie No. 3, holla!).
Now, I’ve discussed actresses as spokesmodels here before, but this announcement gave me pause. It’s not just the radiance that is Kate (I could stare at her face all day and not get tired or, possibly, blink) that caught my eye, but the classiness of past campaigns. I’m not a perfume fan by any means; most of the stuff gives me a raging headache. But I do recall liking Trésor, if only for the luminous ads featuring the always-luminous Isabella Rossellini. Remember those from the early '90s? Talk about your pretty in pink. Submitted on June 13, 2007 at 10:45 am The mother-daughter dynamic (a.k.a. the beauty of ridiculously good genes)So I was cruising the photos of the beautiful and bizarre at Cannes again (FYI, Sharon Stone: immortal glamour goddess from the front, still above average yet mortal 49-year-old from the back), when I stumbled across this vision of perfection: Catherine Deneuve and her daughter Chiara Mastroianni.
Yowza. With a little research (thank you, Google), I learned that Chiara is the daughter of Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni and an actress in her own right. OK, fine, her credits include roles in movies like Hillbilly Chainsaw Massacre and characters described as “S&M Girl #1,” but we can’t all be Catherine Deneuve. Still, she was at Cannes with her mother promoting their parts in the animated feature Persepolis, so good for her. … continue reading Submitted on May 24, 2007 at 11:32 am |
