Malinda LoThe Lo-Down Episode 2.8When we shot this week's week's Lo-Down, Sarah P. and I decided to shake things up. We're retiring our fake news format because, to be honest, we haven't had the time to write up the fake news segments! We may do more fake news in the future, but for now, we're going to focus on the Crock P.O.C. — and, beginning in April, we'll be vlogging about Battlestar Galactica!
But I'm getting ahead of myself. This week we deliver a Special Bookish Episode, in which we talk about how much we love Sarah Waters' novels, as well as our (somewhat geeky) attraction to Victorian historicals. Then in the Crock P.O.C. we ramble on about hip-hop in lesbian clubs, vegetarians, being mistaken for porn stars and other random topics suggested by lyndsaykay, sati_49, Wendy and our own demented minds. (Also, if you notice a strange humming noise at some points during the vlog, that's because there was construction going on next door. We don't know what machine makes that humming noise, but hopefully it's not too distracting.) The Lo-Down: Episode 2.8
Submitted on March 10, 2008 at 2:00 pm The Lo-Down Episode 2.7This week, Sarah P. and I bring you a Special Bitchy Edition of The Lo-Down. Struck with a massive amount of orneriness, we decided to channel that into a (hopefully funny) vlog about the art of bitching — because bitching is a close cousin to ranting!
We count down the Top 10 Desirable Qualities in a Bitch, and then dive into the Crock P.O.C. to discuss how to bitch constructively, that horrible BBC show Dawn Goes Lesbian, why Malinda hates voicemail, and many other bitchtastic topics. So if you're having an annoying Monday, join in and bitch about it in the comments! Submitted on March 3, 2008 at 3:05 pm The Lo-Down: Episode 2.6After taking last week off, Sarah P. and I are back with, um, sort of a disorganized and rambly Lo-Down. We know we promised an "on location" Lo-Down but, as I explain in our apologetic intro, we were too busy eating and napping to, uh, work. Therefore, we bring you this slacker edition of The Lo-Down, in which we didn't have time to come up with any fake news, but do devote almost 40 minutes to the Crock P.O.C. We ramble on about topics such as Tyra vs. Oprah, bisexuals and lesbians' views of them, soap on a rope, and Sidney Tamiia Poitier in Knight Rider, as well as continue to discuss Sarah P.'s irritation with public transit.
Thanks to LilyJadeRose and Wendy for topic suggestions, and keep 'em coming! Next week we'll be back to our usual newsy shenanigans. Submitted on February 25, 2008 at 1:19 pm The Lo-Down Episode 2.5In this week's episode, Sarah P. and I give you a (fake) follow-up on the gaydar detection system's unintended side effects, welcome Officer Crenshaw of the Lesbian Fashion Police (LFP), and tackle such hot Crock P.O.C. topics as what kind of lesbian movie we'd make, how Sarah P. knows I'm gay, cats vs. dogs, and interracial dating on The L Word (thanks to Lyndsey for the idea). And more bedtime stories!
This episode seems to be quite pets-focused, in fact, as you'll notice we get a surprise visit from Stuart the Cat. As always, send us your Crock P.O.C. suggestions in the comments. Submitted on February 11, 2008 at 3:20 pm The Lo-Down: Episode 2.4This week, Sarah P. and I bring you updates/rants on hot lesbian careers (thanks to viv24 for the suggestion!), the LU's plans to endorse a presidential candidate, a most unique sofa, Cashmere Mafia's annoying lesbian bridal shower, and Lucy Liu dating an Asian guy. Plus, a musical visit from out American Idol reject, Alex Bull, and Sarah and I take bedtime stories to the next (logical) step.
I was struck by the typo bug again this week — you'll notice that the opening title says this vlog is Episode 2.3, but actually, it's Episode 2.4. You're in the right place if you're looking for all new (fake) news from me and Sarah P. As always, send us your Crock P.O.C. suggestions in the comments! Submitted on February 4, 2008 at 4:00 pm The Lo-Down: Episode 2.3This week, Sarah P. and I bring you late-breaking (fake) news on lesbian bed death, fashion, tofu, more Lesbian/Woman, and an interview with world-renowned psychic Madam Sophia Moonstar.
In this week's Crock P.O.C. we discuss good and bad lies, when Malinda was "butch" and whether she should get a tattoo, and who we'd put in our hot new lesbian rock band. As always, if you have suggestions for future Crock P.O.C. topics, let us know in the comments! Submitted on January 28, 2008 at 3:40 pm The Lo-Down: Episode 2.2In The Lo-Down's second fake news show, Sarah P. and I report on Paris Hilton's L Word partying, heterosexual WBNA players, and advances in gaydar techologies. Plus, we pay homage to our sisters in the struggle by reading from the 1972 lesbian feminist classic, Lesbian/Woman. (Seriously, you've gotta read this book!)
In this week's Crock P.O.C. we delve into such hot topics as ... well, you'll just have to watch to find out! Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas last week for our vlog; we even incorporated some of them (in slightly modified format) into this week's episode (specifically, thanks to lashun, spotticus and Ottoman Empress). If you have suggestions for future Crock P.O.C. topics or for (fake) celezbrity guests, let us know in the comments! Submitted on January 21, 2008 at 3:30 pm Malinda gets fruitySometimes we lesbians are a bit isolated from our gay brethren, but tonight all of that's going to change! OK, it's not all going to change, but I am doing my part to bring us together by guesting on the Fruit Salad Show, a live, Los Angeles-based gay podcast self-described as "a stimulating combination of fun, frivolity, and fruitiness!"
Co-hosted by the fabulous (and often exclamatory) Pauly (above right) and Rico (above left), previous guests have included Deborah Gibson, Amber, RuPaul, Stacey Q and Kristine W. You can see what I'm getting myself into: gay disco diva land with a dash of former teen star. Pauly and Rico do their own take on the week's entertainment news as well, and they've already told me that tonight's topics will include lots of lesbian pop culture, so a good time should be had by all. You, too, can be a part of this fruity extravaganza by calling in to ask me anything you want, starting at 7:30 p.m. PT. The phone number is 646-716-7198, and you can listen in live at www.fruitsaladshow.com. Come on, I can take it. Ask me anything! Submitted on January 16, 2008 at 1:00 pm She Said What?
