Tara becomes a prison lesbian in “Sons of Anarchy” Season 6

On Sons of Anarchy, Dr. Tara Grace Knowles-Teller is a surgeon who has a long-term on-and-off relationship with Jax (Charlie Hunnam), but it appears she’ll be finding a new partner when she goes to prison in Season 6. Tara (played by Maggie Siff) is in trouble with the law for partaking in the family business, which is an outlaw motorcycle gang involved with murder, extortion and all kinds of other illegal activities. She’s sentenced for conspiracy to commit murder. Series creator Kurt Sutter tweeted that Tara will have “a girl-on-girl-on-sort-of-girl lovefest,” but it’s likely it will only last until she gets out. And actually, lesbians haven’t fared so well on the show thus far. The only out gay female character was June Stahl (Ally Walker), who was not only a corrupt cop, but ended up getting killed after she double-crossed Jax. Major characters Gemma (Katey Sagal) and Wendy (Drea de Mateo) also had a brief bisexual kiss in Season 1 but it was never touched on again. Since a lot of people seem to ship Gemma and Tara, though, this has the potential to be interesting. The lesbian-in-prison trope is nothing new, so we shouldn’t be shocked that it’ll be part of the new season, but we probably shouldn’t get our hopes up, either. Tara is a beautiful and conflicted character, but SOA seems to want to keep her and Jax in a twisted triangle with his ex-wife Wendy. Maggie Siff plays a major role in the new lesbian film Concussion, too, so at the very least, we’ll be seeing more of her Sapphic side soon.
