SXSW gets GayBiGayGay every year

This week, music fans and music industry workers are congregating in Austin, Texas for the SXSW Music Festival, where thousands of bands play shows at bars, in backyards, at barbecues, house parties and street corners.

And it wouldn’t be Austin if there wasn’t some queer thrown in the mix: the city itself is known for being a live music capital and also “weird” (self-professed), so of course, they have to throw a huge gay music party. GayBiGayGay is that party, and it’s happening this Sunday, from 10 a.m. until, well, “all night long.”

Some of the acts playing are well known, like Shunda K and Gretchen Phillips; but what SXSW is good for is hearing newer and under the radar acts, and getting into them before they become buzzed about outside of Texas. Some of the bands that are worth seeing or at least checking out online if you aren’t in Austin this week include Austin’s own BUTCH county, Philadelphia bands Maple Rabbit and Dangerous Ponies and San Francisco-quartet Excuses for Skipping.

In past years, Jenny Hoyston and Lesbians on Ecstasy have played GayBiGayGay, so you know that these newer bands are bound to make a name for themselves after performing this weekend.

Are you familiar with any of the acts playing this year?
