Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gaga get made up for MAC

MAC Cosmetics has the right idea. What better way to usher in the luscious bounty of spring than with two blonde bombshell gay icons?

Five octave singing ’80s diva Cyndi Lauper has always been a supporter of the queer community. Newcomer Lady Gaga is openly bisexual and continually pushes the boundaries of gender, sexuality, and just plain bizarre performance art. Together they make a formidable team to introduce MAC’s Viva Glam Spring 2010 campaign, to debut in February.

The first of the pictures from photographer Ellen von Unwerth gives off a darkly contrasting pink and red Valentines vibe. The fair-haired lasses thickly painted eyes pop against porcelain skin. And though Lauper looks incredibly surprised, the duo are far from innocent. However, Gaga’s sensual lipstick presentation and fawning over a lace-clad Lauper is endearing. A candy colored, circus stripe in the background tops off this subtly sexy and silly shot. It is actually rather tame for them, especially Gaga with her clean, unmasked face, but a refreshing change to see a simply lovely, carefree photo.

Each chanteuse lays claim to their own shade of lipstick, so, come March 18, it will be a tough choice whether to smear your chops with Viva Glam Gaga or Viva Glam Cyndi. If the ad’s style and choice of model is any indication these colors are likely to be bold and innovative while still having a fun and possibly even retro feel.

Cyndi and Gaga also were named the newest faces of the MAC AIDS Fund for the “From Our Lips” campaign a few months back. The MAC AIDS fund, which has raised over $150 million since 1994. Previous spoke models of the MAC AIDS fund include Fergie, Pamela Anderson, Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliot and Chole Sevigny.
