Good news, nerdsbians: Syfy has heard your #RenewWarehouse13 cry and picked up the show for a final, six-episode season! Yesterday, Syfy boss Mark Stern told Deadline:
Warehouse 13 has been an incredible signature series for us. We are grateful to the loyal and passionate fan base and know that Jack Kenny, his gifted creative team, and outstanding ensemble cast will give them an amazing finale season.
The fifth season will film this summer and air in 2014.
I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I’m fully going to get all up in this gift horse’s grill. Warehouse 13 has been a remarkable sci-fi series, one of the best original programs Syfy has ever produced. I know it’s sacrilege, but I’d put it up there with Battlestar Galactica. And gay lady viewers have been smitten with H.G. and Myka’s relationship from the very beginning. For a while, it seemed like maybe we were just enjoying another old-fashioned subext pairing — but then both Jaime Murray and Jo Kelly went ahead and blew our minds by saying repeatedly that H.G. and Myka are in love. Showrunner Jack Kenny has firmly held his position that the two are just really dear friends, but even Syfy’s official promotion team can’t help but agree that there’s more to their relationship than platonic affection.
The series has handled all of the show’s romances with a light touch, choosing to focus on the awesome sci-fi elements of the show instead of the drama of relationships. And it has worked really well. But in this final season, with no fear of shark-jumping or writing themselves into the corner, I think it’s time to finally transform H.G. and Myka’s simmering subtext into delicious maintext, don’t you?
Jaime Murray’s Defiance just got picked up for a second season, but we have it on good authority that the shows film just across the parking lot from one another.
Syfy + Canada + Sizzling Sapphic Chemistry = The Greatest TV in the World!
